Those 5200's were pretty strong and stout. Dad and Grandpa had a pair of em they got back in the 80's when we started burning wood. These were red Craftsman saws labeled 5.2.

Nice saw Thistle. See how your 5200 has the casting sticking out at the front of the crankcase with screws going through it. The early 5200 did not have that and was later added to make them stronger.
I have one of the early ones. Reed valve with a lot of torque and low RPM. They will pull a long bar. Great saw for your collection.

I always liked the stock muffler on those with the pipe sticking out.

I like the piped muffler too, and have patterned a number of muffler mods after them.

This one showed up on my doorstep today. Not exactly a shelf queen, but it's not often a guy gets a chance to own a chainsaw with a Wankel rotary engine!

I'm fortunate enough to know a guy who occasionally gets his hands on some rare saws and I'm high up on his call list! I have a Skil 1690 that I got from him as well (not to mention some 090 runners and 090 & Contra parts).

Sad thing is that I'm a lowly Stihl hoarder, not the type of refined collector who accumulates saws like these. I know Some guys who have better taste than me though, so my "off brand" stuff goes to them. I just get a kick out of being able to say I've owned them! As a matter of fact, I'm a foster home for this KMS-4 as its already spoken for...

Took it outta storage made a few cuts yesterday. The ol' girl runs pretty good, lots of torque & high RPM's.Not bad for 35+ years old. Will need a carb kit before too long though.

    4 cube/65cc. 20" bar/full comp chain is nothing for this in local hardwoods. DSC03018.JPG DSC03019.JPG DSC03020.JPG

Yep those saws will noodle like nobody's business. Lots of chip clearance in the clutch cover.

Got 'em ALL out today for some run time. New coil on the 394, and the b/c is new to me. The 'ol Pioneer 610 fired up in less than 10 pulls! Aside from some minor chain detail, I'm ready for the GTG in a few weeks.

I have a 65 that my dad bought new about 40 ago. It's not fast but you can't bog it down. Been at least 15 years since I've used it.
