    I cut grass with a push mower; does not take me long. The front garden is mostly flower beds; only one side garden that is small except for the small one beside the shed and no grass there. The back garden is where most of the grass is located; I have to have enough room to get the tractor to the veggie gardens and for wood hauling.

    Buddy and I mow 9 yards, mostly enjoy it. It does not hold a candle to working the woodpile.

    I mow my yard with a craftsmen weedwacker. My good friend is gona skip the first woodcutting trip of the year 2moro so he can run a stupid weedeater, to tame his 2 acres of weeds and cheatgrass.

    It doesn't work wel when the temp is much past room temp unless a breeze is working. However I will say I don't mind moving wood in the summer. Reason for this is to unsettle the wood that has been kinda waterlogged. Yes there are some of us out here on a freaking budget and can't stack and cover our wood with expensive stuff! Anyways to get it moving around helps keep it clean too. Knocking it around, turning the wood so one surface isn't always up, and other ways to just get some air moving around it. I don't mind stacking or splitting at all because at a certain point in the summer, the grass becomes obsolete and I turn to the task of being "ready". Ive got a bunch of wood to process this summer.
    The best part will be looking forward to my stacks being under cover.

    I used to enjoy cutting the lawn when I did just mine with a push mower and kept it putting green perfect and weed free.
    Then dad died and I got tasked with his.
    I got his looking as nice as mine and then one day I got struck with the stupidity of it all. The expense, the time the effort. Dug up my front lawn and returned it to a garden like it was 4 generations ago, am planting trees, bushes, weed blocking flowers and cutting way back on lawn ( at my house anyway ) where I can.
    So yeah, I'd rather be stacking wood on the lawn.

    No work beats processing wood in my opinion. Mowing is a hassle this point of the year because I have about 5 trees in the National Forest I want to cut before someone else gets them and before it gets hot. I don't mind mowing but there's lots I'd rather do.

    I just enjoy being outside this time of year so I really don't mind mowing. I don't have a whole lot of grass to mow here - I can push mow the entire lawn in a little over an hour. I used to mow a little more in the back yard but that part wants to return to the forest so I'm letting it.

    But, yeah I'd rather process wood for sure. It's still a little too wet to go fetch anymore out of the woods right now though.

    You do not have to use expensive stuff at all! For stacking wood, I've paid a total of $0.00. However, I will admit that I once tore down a building just to get the lumber and the roofing. The roofing (metal) is all used as covering. To stack on, I use saplings that cost only the little bit of gas to cut them down which would be pennies. Which reminds me that I'll soon have to cut some more. I think the last time I cut any saplings for stacking on was about 5 years ago.

    I will freely admit that I love the smell of freshly cut grass. However, there really is no comparison to mowing vs putting up firewood. Mowing takes a back seat any day of the week.

    Ive found old corrougated roofing that costs 20 bucks for a 2 foot by 10 foot section. Not cheap by any means. When it is free its not sitting around long either. I have one tree in my yard, so pallets arr the gooder freebie but cover seems overly ridiculous to get.

    Have you considered covering with plywood or osb then a tarp or some other roofing on top? If tarp, it need to get air between the tarp and hard covering. This does not mean you need to have a permanent gap but enough loose so wind will get through to keep it dried. It is not the most ideal but will work for a cheap alternative. In addition, if using something like this, be sure to make a slant so water runs off and can not sit. This also means no low spots and we see this problem a lot in pictures that are posted. Low spots spell trouble in the making.

    Here you go. Real nice day today here. You might be able to see where I stopped mowing. :DI should be finishing the lawn but decided to play pick up sticks for a little while.. You guys are a bad influence.. :loco: :crazy:
