I know this would probably never happen but we have have the old Treecycle pellet plant here in Nazareth (basically next town over) that closed a few years back. It would be nice if someone got that up and running again. I think the last time I looked up the deed for that property, I think maybe PA Pellet bought it but didn't do anything with it but a problem may be no rail service there.......not sure.
I didn't mention any brand of pellet, rather the price of the higher priced and higher btu pellets as compared to lower priced or lower btu pellets. Pellets burned in a high efficiency stove which is in a well insulated home will not justify the cost of $300+ / ton pellets as compared to the $210/ton pellets. The btu range is fairly narrow. The math is: burn a few more pellets, but save a considerable amount of money and be every bit as warm.
Also the Great American pellet company in Palmerton , they suspended operations lack of raw material IIRC.

Ok....lets just say for a minute we took over Great American plant and started bagging the Douglas Fir's there and the rail cost would be a tad less.....would you spend $340-$350 for them?....if yes, would everyone else also do you think?......if no, then you have your answer why we aren't there....because this probably is what it would take for this to work. And don't be starting any rumors....we are NOT looking at buying/leasing/starting back up any mill/plant in PA, OH or anywhere else around there or have any plans to currently......
Not starting any rumors , I know why you're not here you can't compete @ $350 / ton . I can buy Hamer's or Turman's @ $250 / ton both pretty awesome pellets . Always appreciate your insight into the business side of the pellet world thanks Doug
So you ARE looking at bagging here lol I myself wouldn't fork out that kind of dough for pellets but would possibly just buy a half ton or so to have on hand.....provided my stove would like the pellets.
Soooooo.Let's just say that they put a trailer on every bicycle on the rails to trails and each one hauls 4 bags of pellets out of the facility in Nazareth. Heck, you could even charge people for the privilege of hauling a pellet trailer..okay, crazy morning talk. time for a cup of Joe..
She opened at 9:30am and was sold out by 10:00am...think she probably could have had any brand and this would have happened.
blew thru a truckload of NEWPS between 8 and 11 this morning......now I'm selling the Okies.....the folks near me are very frugal! Only have around 100 tons of those too.......dang
no issues from us...other than some delays with the railways getting cars delivered in a timely manner...some slow turns thru major switches like Chicago/Framingham because of the cold (iced switches, lack of manpower, engines not starting) and that is understandable. I don't want to work in -10 below weather either. It hurts getting product to the plant to bag, but also getting cars returned to the west coast to pickup more....As soon as product is bagged, its gone and most doesn't last too long once it hits the dealer's yard...just wish we had more to get out a tad faster
well, depends on the mill, actually. It took me 3 hours to sell a full truckload yesterday of NEWPs....don't know about next week- they are doing their best to supply everyone, but we are down to 1-3 trucks per week, and when we are selling a truck in 3 hours, well, 3 trucks wont last long...and its 3 trucks if we are lucky....we have received as little as one per week. Other pellets are different- like Doug says, he is still shipping product, but it takes time to get it to the bagging mill, get it bagged, and then picked up and brought to the pellet store. One brand, who shall go unnamed, has instituted a $20/ton "energy surcharge"....and the pellet isn't the greatest one out there.....
Too many noisy grandkids here this morning so I took a ride seeing what, if anything, was available for pellets. This is what I found: Lowes - None. Expecting 2 trucks Thursday, possibly 1 GT and 1 GS. HD - Expecting a truck tomorrow. Don't know what or when. TSC - None. Don't know if they're getting more or not. Local farm supply store - None. Expect more, don't know when
yea, pretty bad scene....just talked with a customer who told me they cant find pellets between Boston and Albany........dang........hope this winter ends soon......down to less than 60 tons okies now......eeop!
