Young leaves look like oak, maybe white oak.

Thank you gentlemen, I had some of the laterals removed over the house this past Jan on this one, the same day I had a red oak dropped. I have 6 red oak (I'm almost certain) trees and this double White oak. The White oak will Remain for now. But it is nice to know what I have, thanks again for your help guys. I knew that would not take long....

Aside from getting a satisfying answer, would you venture a guess as to what tipped us off?

White oak leaves coming about in spring:

An easy tell between white & red varieties:

Note the use of the term "usually" applied to describing red oak leaves....

Just some internet stock shots, but that's how a few of us here drill down to a solid guess/answer depending on the ID.

As to your "location" response, you might remember I'm a native Long Islander and I recall my dad felling and splitting up plenty of each (red & white) which is prolly why I don't mind the smell of oak at all. But those times with my pop helped me to call out some of the more common species, too.

I know this isn't "PC," but I was told that white oak lobes are rounded like bullets, and red oak lobes are sharp like arrows.
