Rain Rain go away! I'd like to skid some logs someday!

Same bota friday.
And then again the same spot different angle a day later lol. Not bad right,
wrong, guess I'm doing something right lol.

The cottage is drying up nice. I am a little surprised it has dried up with the start and the rain we received this spring. No more walking on a wet sponge across the yard feeling.

 

I see a cable of sorts, in the first picture, right above the back plow. Then, I see what looks like what "used" to be a cable, of sorts. Did it snap?

 

It's a skidding winch, but I've used it just as much for pulling me/others out, and for directional felling as skidding logs, its a nice tool to have .

I could do that, but you have to have a sence of adventure lol. It will dry up as soon as I get it cleared and graded back out. The whole hill drains onto that spot, but the underbrush I'm clearing keeps the wind and sun off it. It will probably be almost completely dry tonight even after the rain we got last night.
I don't wait often, spending the extra time pulling it out both times only cost maybe an hr, but now it's mostly cleared out and it will be graded soon and draining for many yrs.

there is a lot of things we all like to do.but we all get the rain and have to wait, for a dry spell.

 

Well it's actually been drying up quite a bit since I first posted this - we didn't get nearly as much rain as they were calling for the past 2 weeks.

Couldn't get too greedy with the load size, but I made a little bit of progress. First load was 3 smaller ash that were near the road, second was a snapped off black birch and the top of the red pine that fell on it. The pine actually looks like a pretty nice log even though it was beetle kill. So the rest of it is going to be lumber - probably mostly decking for another firewood pallet.

I got it all split and stacked too. It was about a face cord altogether.



Made myself a Backwoods Savage style measuring stick as well. Beats the heck out of using a tape measure.
