It was a rainy day and I was in the garage while my wife and her GF's were drinking, so the garage is where I stayed. And so the next best thing was to take the saw apart and see what was wrong.

I had a response similar to this. Haha

Good work I have gotten to the bottom of page 1 so far and looks like you have gotten it narrowed down.

Happened to me years ago; figured it was bad something or other.....guys at the shop just giggled and took the cap off, blew it out maybe put a new ring on it and has been good ever since. They told me dirt/sawdust gets it there and will cause it to leak like that.

    But seriously it's a husky.

For some reason it seems a large percentage of them leaks their bar oil oit like that? No idea why this unscientific but what a concensus seems to be.

What I said holds true in my personal experience. ..but like I said is unscientific. I do own 4 stihls including 2 non runners and I just sold one a month or so back none leaked like that. That said I own 2 huskies and have a new 555 for work. The 555 leaks. I don't think the other 2 do but I don't remember honestly on the Last 2.

I only have 2 saws so limited experience but my 026 oil tank will go dry in a week when it is on the shelf and I have never seen a drop leak out of my 555.

I can confirm this I had 5 026's they all leaked. However I haven't had a modern stihl leak like that. My Dolmar will leak if the tank builds pressure due to ambient temperature change. Very rare.

I never took much issue with saws leaking, because to me they are meant to be oily and dirty. I just sit them on a piece of old cardboard. That cardboard makes excellent firestarter btw!

I must be missing something because I'm reading that the saw was started and set on the bench running for 2 minutes then picked up and a puddle was found. This is to be expected, normal for a non clutch driven oiler.

A lititle bit, but not the whole tank to drain itself while on the shelf.

Your talking about while ideling or after the little bit that just dribbles out of the cover.
