More global warming!

+1 To me, that's the whole thing right there. Has anyone ever figured out what human population our planet can support if we treat it properly?

 

No, no Dave. There is not enough water THERE to sustain. It is transported there from north.

Another technology advancement. We solve problems with amazing achievements. Will we be able to solve problems quick enough if we change the weather patterns to much? Controlled atmospheres for growing? Like mega green houses? Where less water will be needed to grow more food.

 

I wouldn't think allowing even more population growth than what is already happening would be a good thing. But China has eased restrictions on the one child rule. Haven't they? India and several other countries are busting their ability to sustain their populations. Ugh!

 

God help us if we ever are able to actually control the weather. It'll get used as a military weapon and it will just make more innocents suffer under pinheaded tin pot dictators around the world…

 

I am just thinking if the weather patterns were to change to start creating problems that we could not grow enough food. And a potential solution would be to use more green houses which would allow the use of less water and prevent different damages to the crops. (Insects, etc.)

This is also an interesting read. Some serious money going into solar and wind around the world. Some of the details in this are really interesting. Enough wind power to be added in the next 10 years in this area in China to power all of New York City.

Got one right over in Madison, Maine. They grow tomatoes year round… lots of tomatoes…

Mmmm Hmmm. Ever notice what happens when the big storm is coming? Everyone runs to the store to buy everything they can get their hands on and the stores start to run out. We live sorta on the edge all the time. The stores really on trucks that come in with food every two or three days. Is there a contingency plan? You and I may have a decent food storage area in the house to get us through a few weeks. I have one that should get us through a month, I hope. But what about all those people who don't? Do we have a contingency plan for if the weather changes and we have a really bad season for growing? I am just thinking out loud here. Not trying to be an alarmist or doomsdayer. What do you guys think of this? I have probably brought this up elsewhere, maybe the other site. But lets say global warming starts to create some serious problems with growing food. What then?

Easy to identify the problems.
Much tougher to find & implement solutions that make everyone happy.

Where is NY City getting their water ? Coming in via pipelines (aqueducts) from somewhere.
I believe much is from the drainage of the Great Lakes. Much of the source of the water is Canada.

So who decides where water pipelines are from & to. ? Why this place gets water & this place don't. ?
Are the farms who feed the nation more important than the cities.
Space station recycles nearly all of it's water, why can't NY City or every city .
Farmers don't have that option.

No matter how the water is getting there, it's there. Who closes the water valve ? When do the water valves get closed ?

Water becomes a big business.
Those who can afford to haul in water will have water & will stay.

Then some who can't afford to haul in supplies will cry foul.
Much more political drama to be played out before any agreeable solution is worked out.

There are legitimate questions about global warming and it's potential problems. If you don't wish to partake in the conversation, then don't. Simple.

Do we have a major any contingency plan? History to repeat? Except this time, if it happens, it will be on a much larger scale population wise. It would be happening to us. Or our children or grandchildren. Do our governments plan for any of these problems? I don't know much about it.
