Been here an hour, ready to go home! $60/day parking, $12 for cigs, $7 for a beer from the wet bar! I've just been reduced to minimum wage. Phone gps is worthless downtown, took 1 hour to get roughly 5 blocks to find our hotel. (Clicks heels together, closes eyes) There's no place like home, there's no place like home...
1.) Ask directions to a beer store (GPS wont work) 2.) Put on big azz coat since it's going to be windier/colder than heck 3.) Buy beer 4.) Hurry back to the room (windy city, see #2) 5.) Drink beer and go to Firehoarders.com
Ha! Precisely what I did! Bought beer at Walgreens across the street, now I'm back at the hotel surfing fh.com!
Drove through Chicago in 1997, going and coming. Zero interest in stopping. I remember the 6 lanes of wall to wall traffic, in each direction. I'll never understand how people want to live like that. But then, many of them think those of us who love the country life are nuts. Perfect… Get home safely and soon…
I still get freaked out being up that high without leaning out over glass. Ever watch the youtube videos of tower climbers going to the top of media towers? That's freaky
Chicago driving is like playing pole position. Just glad I'm always doing it in a rental instead of my firewood hauler Get out there and enjoy the city...too much good stuff going on there to spend your time in a hotel room.
It's been a little better. A nice long brisk walk in the concrete and steel jungle helped. We hooked up with the wife's cousin who lives in Wrigleyville, had a good dinner, good drinks, and good time visiting. I'm gonna try to make it to the Muesem of science and industry this afternoon.
Urban environments are what they are. They offer a lot, but they can be annoying at the same time. Chicago on the north side is safe and usually nice. Not a cheap place but no big city is. Stay away from Halsted and Addison streets unless you want to be hit on by other males. LOL! Wrigley Field is only a couple blocks west!!!
Pretty much the same thing we found when we went to Washington DC. We surely was happy to see it in our rear view mirror!
Yup I spent a lot of time there when truck driving. I'm good for the rest of my life too....... Great people but too many too close and too expensive.
Well, we made it home. Awesome neighbor lit the stove this morning, so it's nice and warm in here. I'm glad I went, but don't care to go back. I couldn't help but to stare at all the downed trees along the 5 hour drive though! Killian's Red is the flavor of the evening as the wood heat washes over me and I slip into dreamland. Good night, and thanks for following my trip!
The neighbor burns wood and sometimes coal, but has natural gas, so he just supplements. I'm waiting on ng to get ran to my house, but it will be secondary heat, as I am falling in love with wood heat.
