Rain Rain go away! I'd like to skid some logs someday!

    Will somebody tell Ma Nature that it's May? She can turn off the April showers now. Jeesh! :picard:

    I guess we're playing catch up for the last two years, when we had burn bans in place by mid May because of drought conditions. The trees do seem to be loving it for the most part. The ones that can remain standing anyway. My woods is starting to look like a war zone.

    I was hoping to be able to skid out all of these logs plus a bunch more and hire a sawyer to come cut them up for me by early summertime. But maybe after this week I'll be able to paddle around in a canoe back there and float them out instead.

    All of these pics are different trees or piles of trees. And it's just the tip of the iceberg.

    This one is about 6' diameter at the base, and hollow.

    The rain will help with a naturally occurring fungus/bacteria that will help kill off the gypsy moth caterpillars. They hatched out this week, and are everywhere. Little quarter inch critters. They are everywhere. Me? I'm hoping it''ll stay damp outside for another few weeks, at least. But then again, I'm not trying to clear out any trees. Here's hoping for a happy middle ground.

    Sorry that this picture does not do the place justice as a different angle would have shown what looks almost like a tornado went through because of so many trees down and many of them hung up. But, our friend chipper1 thought he could perhaps help get some logs out then this happened. Nasty.

    On the bright side, we have a 50% chance of more showers forecast tomorrow then they are leaning towards an end or at least a temporary end to this terrible wet spell. We dodged a bullet over the weekend as most of the rain fell elsewhere and we only got 1.4" of rain. However, we got another .2" Tuesday and more yesterday but I have not yet looked at the rain gauge. I did take a short trip into the woods to see if the water is down. It isn't. This is amazing because of the sand as it usually goes down fast. A testament to how much water we got in April this year. And now the mosquitoes are hatching. Fortunately the temperature is low enough so they are not very active but once it gets above 60 (next Wednesday) they will be hungry.

    Oh yeah, I was back there when he got it stuck, bucking up some of the snagged trees. I wanted to see that winch in action. It did indeed look like a tornado went thru there. Its too bad it was so wet otherwise we could have hauled a few more cords out of that spot I think.

    It's been raining nonstop for the past 2 days here, and they say it's going to keep raining all weekend. :(

    Boy you're gonna need a an even bigger skidder if you wanna get that thing out. Trouble is, would the skidder get stuck on the way?

    Had a little over 5" in the last week here. The drying winds are blowing hard today. Hoping to get out the mower tomorrow! I won't be able to mow everything but I need to knock down what I can.

    Shawn Curry Your woods look like mine. Downed trees everywhere. Some broken off and some over by the roots. I have to take care of the paper birch in the yard before I can move on to the woods.

    I feel for you, in the same situation here. With last night's storms I estimate 12 inches (30.5cm) here lately. The ground is saturated and the valley flooded last night; I was working in muck to no end today.

    Around 25 years ago I borrowed a friends truck who was working day shift at the papermill. I said, " I'll have it back when you get out at 3:00". Well, at 3:00, it was pretty much where your truck was in the photo.:headbang: :doh:

    That truck belongs to a friend he called me last month asked me to come pull him out. When I got there I asked him at what point did you figure you were stuck?:whistle: I was able to pull it out........... I've lived in Nevada for 32 years and I've never seen a winter as wet as this one.......... NOAA is predicting a 90% chance of rain for today and tonight and a foot of snow in the mountains.
