I just ran the 455 for the first time since last October. I changed the plug and put fresh mix in it. It started right up and it idled on the bench for about 2 mins. When I picked it up I saw a big ole puddle of chain oil.

What happened in the last 6 months?

Mine did something that looked like that and it was a plastic pick up line that was cracked. Or so they said at the Husky shop. It was about $30 for them to fix it. If you know what you are doing, which I don't, it sould probably cost less tha$5 and about 15 minutes of your time.

Blow out the oil hole in the bar. Try that first.

My guess would be a cracked plastic line too.

Looks like you forgot to put the drain plug back in after you changed the oil

What are you using for chain oil? Looks like used motor oil.

Unless it's got a clutch driven oiler, after two minutes of idling on the bench it should be sitting in a puddle.

I've had temperature fluctuation from the ambient temperature change cause a pressure build up in the oil tank that cause that before. Especially if the saw hasn't been used for a few months. And more prevalent when going from cold temps to warmer temps.

It looks like there may be two different oil pumps made for this saw: one adjustable, one not. Is there an adjustment screw for your oiler?

If they're anything like the stihl counterparts, the non-adjustable ones are not clutch activated - they just run constantly the entire time the saw is running. Which means if you let it idle for any period of time, and the chain is not spinning, the oil keeps pumping and just drips onto your bench or the ground. IE this is working by design.

If that's the case, then maybe you can take it to the dealer and have them install the adjustable pump, or have them order it and install it yourself. Or get the bib. :D

The saw is in pieces on the bench and the problem you had is similar to mine. The line that comes from the pump to the exit where it oils the chain had a buildup of crap under the plate and eventually moved (or lifted) the rubber boot that sits on the pump itself. After I took the plate off I could see where the concentration of oil was coming from.

After watching a few you tube videos on the same problem as mine, I was kinda surprised to see that a lot of the saws in the vids were cleaner than mine underneath that steel plate.

So that is making me wonder if I should be taking that steel plate off on the regular to clean.

Long story short, the pump and gears are fine, it pumps ok. The upper oil line and the pickup line I ordered new, the new pickup line also has a mesh screen in the reservoir vs the grey colored original thingy that it came with.

The bar oil is from echo and I got it at TS, it's very dark.

Anyone got any pointers when I start to put this together? This is a first time saw project for me.

As far as I know the pump is clutch activated. There is an adjustment screw for the oiler and as far as I can tell there is only two positions. Since I've touched I'm not quite sure where it's set right now. I might have to run it to see which setting is which before I close it up.
