Yes they do but plant them away from dog frequented areas. They are a member of the grape family and all of these fruits cause organ failure in dogs. Just a tip.

We'll stick with peaches, apples, cherries, strawberries and raspberries for our fruit. And it appears we should have a good crop this year.

I did plant a couple Pear trees, one died and the other is doing OK. But, it is a dwarf and I get some pears, except last year. The deer ate every darn Pear.

Well, the pear wood turned like a dream. A nice, tight, firm grain and it sanded very well. I used hand-rubbed Danish oil and let it soak in. There were some cracks and deep pockets, but it helps define the character of the piece. This piece will be going to my parents. The stem is darker pear wood from the base of the tree. The pear body is from a limb.

I think I will run the metal detector over any other chunks before using them.

I doubt much of it will get burned after seeing how nice it turned.

Oh yeah, I forgot about pear butter/syrup; it is yummy on pancakes and waffles. I think I got a few pots still.

I think the dang freeze got the fruits again this year. Hopefully I will get some blackberries this year; last year they ripened and then rain rain rain ruined them.

1/2 hp about a 1980's Craftsman. 4 speed, 12" diameter by 36" spindle. Oldie, but in great shape. The live center was the best purchase I made for it.

I recently picked up a nova but have not used it yet. It'll be a self taught process as I have no experience....yet! But I have big aspirations!

Nice work Jon! Love the wooden pear!

My parents have a couple pear trees on the farm though I'm not sure which variety. I know the root stock is from some other kind of tree but I don't remember what kind. Anyway they were great producers and still are. I'm not even sure how the one is still standing because it is completely hollow. But as of last year it still had branches dropping down to the ground weighed down with fruit and it was still delicious.

Amy doesn't like pears though. I tried to get her to try a bite but she wasn't having it.
