    Finally firewood permits for down timber in the Santa Fe Nat'l Forest went on sale yesterday. Been chompin' at the bit to start gathering fw for a few weeks now. :saw::axe::stacke:
    My buddy and next-door neighbor George and I hit it early. We had scouted some big ponderosa pines that the forest service had cut and left laying by the side of the highway. Easy pickings and fun, but still hard work. Of course, this work will be converted to heat in a couple of years via my Lopi Endeavor! :fire:

    This type of woodcutting is mostly what i do. Usfs permits, 10$ a cord. Its still a bit wet with scattered snow drifts in the forest where i cut. Lower elavations good too go, but very little firewood.

    $20 for 5 cords. 10 permits are issued, each for 1/2 cord. Down wood only, but there's a lot of that.

    I don't see where there is a price for our permits in WA. There is a max of 6 cord per year.

    I believe there is what we call a discovery pass, this opens up your access to parks and whatnot. Its 30 dollars but with just that and a permit you're good. Dont wanna hijack this post but I say anyone should look into this as a resource since its basically exercising your right to harvest firewood.

    Got there early & got the "Easier/Close to road Stuff"

    Looks pretty dry already. Nice straight grain will be fun to split
    You splitting by hand ?
    Whats your goal (how many cord you gonna try to get? )
    Lots of good down wood there?
    I see quit a bit of down stuff behind the loaded truck pic
    Can you drive up close to most of it?
    How many miles from home ?

    State cutting area here is $10/cord, (min 3 cord- max 10)
