I don't burn pellets for heat I use an old gas station soda cup for lighting the stove. Set the wood in how I want dump about half a cup full of pellets in the cracks and light it up. The pellets make a fast hot even coal bed and get the fire going quickly.

Smaller stoves would be pretty cool to use them for heat though! I've never really tried our stove is pretty big.

I used pellets to start the fire during the winter. Sure made it easier and I could let the fire go out more often because I then could start it faster than using small chunks of wood or kindling. However, now I am just burning pellets to keep the chill off and I know I can easily get it going again if I need to burn real wood.

I like the idea of using pellets to start the wood fire! I'll have to give that a try. I dont burn pellets, but we do use them for the rabbit litter box, so I have em on hand.
