Lit two fires at the cottage yesterday and used kindling on both as opposed to the fire starter.

Well, I was outdoors but did not bring in any kindling. Maybe the ornery one will be going out...

Send her out to get kindling and she might just find a whacking stick.

Like a few others have said, I too rake up splitter trash and store the best under cover till burning season. A little newspaper and we are on our way. I get a bunch of it, why not use it?:)

I have gotten very lazy and though we use the droppings from splitting I tend to use wood pellets because it works better and faster in our stove. Almost instant coal bed.

Normally I think of a torch but I asked awhile back about a free bag of pellets, wondered if they were useful. Another chance may
    Come around.

I use pellets all the time. As a matter of fact, I'm burning some now.

Absolutely. Contrary to what you may have been told, wood stoves burn just about anything, well just about anything. When we decided to supplement our oil furnace back in '07, we went with a wood stove because it will burn, well wood, in just about any form including pellets or those saw dust blocks. Now with a pellet stove you can only burn pellets.

With my tiny stove, I just throw them in and dispense with those fancy pellet holders that can cost over $100. I have to be around the stove, as they don't last long, but with a Jotul F3CB, I'm used to it.

I guess the question is can you direct me to one of those pellet holders?
Im interested as this is an odd option but probably not going to materialize. Strictly want to learn.
