Yeah, I've never seen one snap like that yet. Not on such a small one at least. Make sure the pump spins freely.

You can go to fleet farm, farm and fleet, tsc, etc and buy love-joy items. You don't have to buy both halves and the cushion. Fwiw, I work for a hydraulics system design and fab shop. I'm a Buyer there and I buy the love-joy product s for the company.

Sometimes the coupler will require an angle grinder to persuade it off. That's only if they are crusty from being stuck on there from several years. The new one should slide on easily.

Thanks, this one had to be on there 15 years. Motor side was easy plenty of room for puller with motor off
Pump was a close fit. Dropped it down from housing under motor but did not disconnect hoses. Puller would not fit under and had to grind arms a lot!
Don't know how an angle grinder would have helped other than cutting off 1/3 of lovejoy.
I'd be worried about messing up pump shaft

Mike, mine has been on since new back in the 80's! Only had to change the nylon insert so far. Well, that and a new motor is all the repairs we've made but there is a story behind why we had to change out the engine. Still, not bad for a splitter almost 30 years old.

sometimes the angle grinder is used to make steps for the puller jaws to grab on to.

I have a speeco I bought with a parent loan. When I was a teenager and knew it all. It doesn't look like anything made today. Remember speeco is special products CO. Basically a job shop. They still will do general machine and fab. Logsplitters are a collection of the same ingredients and the amounts and types change with the whims of the chef's. They are all made from " commodity " hydraulic parts and OEM's don't always document what off the shelf parts are used..

I will let him know if he has not fixed it yet? I think he has. He is not as good a mechanic as me and more a parts swapper.

They should slide on. And "Never Seez" (purchase from auto parts store) is your friend.. And just remember to scratch your nose, rub your ear, wipe your sweat and adjust your glasses before opening the can..

Yes, new engineers will change designs from time to time, and the pump, valves, cylinders, and motors are all commodity items that can change. Buyers will get deals on certain parts too, so there will be changes over the years.

I'll check, but we like to purge old parts.

I'm thinking of making new cylinder caps, and using a separate valves to dump the unpressurized end directly to the reservoir. Just let the pump charge the accumulator off peak.
Faster than a kinetic and persistent as a hydraulic.

Curious if you still remember that peculiar smell they give off when drilled and bored ?

Surplus Center is a great place for anything hydraulically related. I just blew a hydraulic line on my log loader and paid $58 at teh local NAPA store, where as they had the same thing for $18. Even with shipping I would have been less then half the cost. I'd kick on NAPA but the Parker Store is even more expensive!

I don't work for Surplus Center , but they have every component on a woodsplitter and then some. A 5" x 24" log splitter cylinder is only $328 and a catalog is free. I look through mine and drool.

It sounds like surplus center is a great resource for splitters and other simple hydraulics.

Yeah, for simple things like a log splitter, most of the stuff we deal with at work is way overboard. We make HPU's for industrial machinery, from 5 gallons to 600+ gallons.

You have to look up surplus center and get the catalog. I've seen a 300 HP TEFC 480v motor with a double tandem pump and mounted Young cooler package on the website. This ain't no farm and fleet.
