I can cure that @ this years GTG. Mine (a 394)is in great shape w/ the new coil.

I don't think you'd go wrong getting a 395. I too lean toward carb saws and these saws oil like a boss. Mine has seen plenty of mill duty and the only issue to date has been a coil which is understandable considering the heat produced on such long wide open cuts.

Now that would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to buy just to buy a "brand new" saw. I have a great fondness for vintage saws also.

80 plus the pole saw.50 some so far are good strong runners, just gas/oil & go.

Others need various things such as carb cleaned or rebuild, new fuel/oil lines, maybe a new spark plug, points (if they have them) cleaned/adjusted,a few missing odd screws/bolts,a better air filter/starter/clutch cover/muffler/recoil.Fix the rope or spring etc.None are seized & they all have at least 125 compression.

Just minor things.I don't have the time, patience or experience to start on total basket cases, rebuilds at this stage in my life.

I got to run the 661, 8000, and 395 yesterday and I'll tell you what it a tough call. The 661 is smooth, well balanced, and had good power. The 395 I ran seemed just a little heavier but I felt the lugging power was better on it ( keep in mind most of my saws are Huskies so it might have just been the familiarity). The echo was smooth, had good power, but felt heavy compared to the other two but it was no slouch and actually quite easy to get comfortable with. The one that left the biggest impression on me was the big dolmars I know you didn't include them but they are very impressive I can see one in my future.

Thanks for the honest opinion. I have never seen a large Dolmar but the small ones look impressive. For now I will be content with the 8000's and save my money for the next thing "I can't live without"........ should be anytime now!!

The 8000 with a muffler mod does really well and is very reliable. I know what you mean I have those I can't live without it moments quite often.
