Since my folks are in town and my dad was dying to do something besides sitting around listening to the womenfolk yap, I finally broke down and rented a splitter to tackle the wall of Shagbark and Ash that's been taunting me for a couple of months...I've been splitting by hand up to this point, but may have to break down and buy one of these contraptions!

Alright that is some good splitting. Now to get those off the ground and stacked so the wood will dry out. Some nice wide open space there you should be able to get on the 3 year plan easy peasy.

Don't worry, those splits will all be Holz Hausen-ified in the near future!

I laughed because as soon as I read the title, I said to myself "Someone discovered wood splitters."

Before I joined the club I was on the one to two year plan and split by hand. When I upped the game to 3 yrs. I couldn't keep up time wise, with work and all. Now that I have a splitter, life is good. And I do like to split by hand. But the splitter is my new best friend.

    Me too.

It was the first thought in my mind.

Good way to get after it.

Good thing there were no belts to have to change on the rental. ;). Lovejoys are pretty maintenance free.

    Yep.

I split by hand for a couple years. One year there was quite a mountain to deal with so I rented a splitter for the 3 day Memorial Day weekend. That pile turned into splits in a big hurry. Decided it was time to break down and buy one so I could work on it a little at a time instead of wasting a 3 day weekend at the wood pile.

Who's the young Daniel Boone? If the first picture didn't show the splitter I'd have to say that kid is a keeper!

Yes on the splitter. I recall when I started using the hydraulics, I was elated and wondered why I put off buying one so long. Also Ashwatcher will no doubt notice right off that you have the splitter set up correctly too. Vertical is the way to go! That's the way God grows them and that's the way He intended us to split them.

:whistle:What I noticed among the blissfully serene backdrop, the wonders and splendor of youth being raised to hopefully continue our craft and hard work leading to some really impressive stacks...Sir Backwoods Savage ,,, Is that is one messed up splitter that really detracts from the photo...we lay em down to access, we lay em down to split...from standing over the splitter to left or right into the stack...no sense chasing rounds and piles of splits all over the yard  :picard:

Heck yeah save your pennies get yourself a splitter.
If I didn't have hydraulics I wouldn't be burning much wood
