to take care of the Spruce that went down a while ago. Set up the splitter, tractor, and trailer and got to work.
Looks like a great day to get out there for sure. Enjoy the time adding up the BTU's papadave ! We all know every little bit adds up. How long does the spruce take to season? I don't burn any evergreen unless it's the burn pit. I'm not at all a wood snob but there's just not a ton of it to be had around here. If some does get cut up it usually is just pushed into a pile and burnt before anyone knows about it.
I might be able to use it this fall. If not then, I'll wait til next fall. Don't really need it, so I'll wait to use it when it's dry. SOP
Went out and split another trailer load, and now the darn tractor won't start ..........again. The starter spins up, but isn't getting up to the flywheel teeth..........again. Tow strap at the ready. But I need a sammich or sumthin' first.
So, too busy to mess with the tractor yesterday, but today I pulled the shroud off and watched the starter. It's doing exactly what it should, but................the flywheel is missing a few teeth, and right where the starter pinion comes up is where some of them are missing. So, I turn the flywheel a bit, turn the key, and tractor starts right up. Think I'll nurse it along for a bit, but at least now I know what's wut. I had already split the r/h stack of rounds, so I got those stacked after getting the tractor going. By the time I get the top of the tree cut, and everything split, I may just end up with 1/3 cord for Oct. of '18. Perfect.
Could you price out a used FW, Paps? Maybe get a set of them plastic "funny" teeth and duct tape them in place? Eh? Maybe? Think about it.... and no charge for that piece of sage advice.
Red Green would be proud. It started no problem several times after I figured it out, so I'll take my chances for a while. I don't wanna' waste perfectly gooder duct tape. Yep, a CC. I bought it back in the beginning of '07. Been having starting gremlins for a few years now. I'm not a mechanic, so I learn as I go......sorta'. Good luck with yours. What did you get?
LXT 1045 with the 20 horse Kohler twin engine, I don't like the way it starts but it may be the battery also the toe in on the front wheels is ridiculous and something like tranny noise but I can't hear it when I kick in the blades so that's ok...Lol...I like running it and hope it lasts awhile...It came with a bagger which I am using right now for cleanup, My 22 year old murray is waiting in the wings if this one breaks...
Nice work! So, a few teeth missing on the flywheel huh? Does that not look like a fun job to do? At least you can spin the motor to get to the gooder teeth until then.
I'm wondering why and how those teeth broke. When I first looked at it, seemed like a pattern, but I'd never seen that before. Weird, odd, strange.....take yer pick. I can now see that there are jagged edges where teeth should be.
Yeah, 2 days straight of 60 and sun has been great. The Spruce is .....fragrant. I like the smell. The sap however, I could do without. I did get a tip from SisIL that peanut butter will take it off your hands, and your hands will smell great for a while, even after washing off the PB.
Hey sweet pea- gloves would prevent the use of PB altogether, no? Besides, that PB could be used for PB pie! Hello?!
Uh, just don't call me Shirley........... I think I used a total of about a tsp. of PB. The pies are safe. Wait a minute, I don't even have the recipe...hmmmm Dogs ate muh glubs....they're on the shopping list.
