Forgive me but I was thinking "Why in the heck are they going to plant ash trees under the Walnut tree after she's gone?" Why yes, I am quite dense at times :emb:

I took the tines off my rototiller and cut an old lawnmower blade mounted to the tine hub and away I went chopping 2" roots and busting through chunks of shale. Laid ~850' of wire in 8hrs

There's a funny story with this upon returning the rental, and in the end I'm happy.

I returned it a couple minutes late of the 2 days I had it. 1 day I expected to pay, the second I was expecting to be comped per the HD rental manager. I was only late because I had to clean out the dirt and house the unit off. Returning the unit dirty is supposed to be a $50 charge. The guard was all caked full of dried mud when I rented it out from HD.

I went to return it, with the old crusty belts in hand, and the sleeves and receipt from the new expensive proper Gates belts. The rental lackey was taking care of me as the manager that comped me the day, was on the phone. I told the guy that "I had 1 day comped, and that I replaced the belts with the proper parts, and that I did it exactly per the owner's manual that I downloaded online. "

The lackey then immediately said "I doubt it"

    Bitch please.

At that point he pizzed me off so I told him " OK then. I guarantee that I installed the proper belts, and installed them better than he could ever perform that same maintenance, and ( as I held up both crappy old cracked belts) that these should've been changed out before they rented this machine out this year.

His only response, was that the belts were only changed less than a year ago. I told him that it sure didn't appear that those belts had been changed in 5+ years, if ever.

The manager told. The lackey to return back nearly $90 of my deposit of 150. So my 2 day rental was $60. That was $14 less than the 1 day rental I was to be charged. I was fine with that. I had to get back to eat lunch at our friends house where I trenching and run the cable this am.

I left him the belt sleeves, and my receipt to prove I used the proper belts.

So all in all, even with the $35 in belts, I was $95 for 2 days rental that should've been $148.

I got our friends system all installed by 4pm. That time even included 20 minutes of step 1 of the dog training of their big lab mix.

Here's the head unit installed at my friend's house in the garage. IMG_20170423_155831401.jpg

So, I got both systems installed this weekend, as I planned, despite the belt issues on the trencher.

I think if you add up the time not changing belts, I trenched and buried in one step, 2000 feet of cable in 8 hrs.

Not bad really. I recommend the ez trencher cable layer as long as you check the belts out before renting it. ;)

Got a few projects done, almost done and started this weekend.

Dogs to the vets for shots...the biggest was the biggest baby. Lol. That was followed by a run to the tree dump to get rid of the bazillion bags of leaves and branches we had.

Did some landscaping yesterday. Especially we put some ornamental grass around the front yard bird feeder.

I started working on fabricating my own barn door hardware for the shed. I grabbed a couple old 2.5" pulleys and some flat metal stock.

Pulled the pulleys apart, bent the stock and drilled them.

I'm going to use an angle iron mounted on a 2x4 as a rail system. Ended up using grade 5 bolts as the the metal was to wide for the original pins.

Also took an old weather vane that wasnt in the best shape and put it together as some yard art.

Drilled out the center of a piece of ash for a base, then put one of our solar spotlights on it.

    Worked on siding mostly today.

Above the painted 1x6 will be shake shingles. A pergola will be attached to the cedar ledger board half way down the wall.

Went and saw my FIL and helped him for a bit this afternoon. A nice day and we got a good chunk done. :)

A sliding barn door is on my list this year for the laundry room. I'll check the local scrapyard for wheels or use garage door pulleys. I'll ding up the metal a little and forge a handle.

Those barn door hardware kits are not cheap on the net either. I'm going to use the flat bar stock for the rail and make 4 brackets to bolt it to the wall.

You're right...I priced a system at Menards and if I remember right it was over $150. I'm sure the interior decorative ones aren't any less expensive.

I also installed the 1acre dynatrap I got on Saturday in a FedEx shipment.

    DynaTrap 3-Way Insect Control

    They really work.

A friend has a dynatrap at his house, and we come over for fires in his fire pit on his patio a lot in summer. We've never been bothered by single Skeeter , and they have ever either once the dynatrap has been running a couple weeks.

Amazon has great deals on them.

Yep. I was skeptical at first, but having witnessed first hand, several times the lack of skeeters when there should have been a lot of them, I was sold.

Had I just seen them online, or the infomercial, I'd say it was BS.

Badger hates any flying insects, biting or not. So if this will keep him happy, that alone is worth it.

Any idea if it's worth it living on a lake with lake hatches? (zillions of mayfly~ish gnat things along with the skeeters)?

My buddy lives near a marsh. It seems to work for him.

I'll report back in a month of using mine. The other day, skeeters were crazy bad. Once it gets a little warmer at night, I'll let you know how it works for me.
