    Fire starter pot. The small cast iron kettle versions are called Cape Cod firepots. The soaker end is usually a porous stone, and it soaks in lamp oil until needed.

    Ding ding! I just read something on these and searched it. Have you ever used one or knew anyone who did fishingpol? I was seeing this in a response for fire starters, using wax and all in the little cups with saw shavings. That's another post but I guess with a little bit of oil fuel and flame you can get just about anything going. Just makes me wonder how well it did but probably became a messy phased out danger.
