Smart move getting another one B, life's too short to be shoveling that white crap we got a few weeks back. Tip I got from a wise old Bear - Stock up on extra shear pins now.

Really Rob, no chitting around. It looks like Anker no longer has much selection for laptop batteries. I checked Anker last year when I was looking for a 9 cell. Although they did not have 9 cell, they had far m ore options than I see now.

This isnt a knock on Anker. Maybe they had similar issues to the brand I bought? All it takes is for a cell manufacture to have an issue and it can take down assembled product issues and are now re tooling to correct the problem.

We had a similar issue with compatable toners a years ago. The powder manufacture had an issue and it affected several sellers because they used the same powder manufacture.

BTW, I put my old Dell battery back in that came with the laptop. It doesnt hold a charge for too long and I am notified that it needs replacing, but it works for now.

Nice choice. The Forester has come a long way in style. My honey's oldest son bought a used one last fall. Cant remember how old but it was new enough to have a CVT tranny. Nice car and Subaru does AWD right.

When I got home from work, the delivery guy was just closing the garage door and getting ready to leave. This thing is heavy duty - and seems larger than my old one. Getting used to the controls will be the challenge.

Oh yeah it is. Guess the lady bought it and then ended up hiring someone to do her lawn and they used their own. Then she moved to FL. Guy (son-in-law) was nice enough to hold it for me; I emailed 3 hours after he posted it on Easter Sunday and asked if I could pick it up that night and that I couldn't pick it up during the week. He had a soft spot for someone who worked two jobs and offered to hold it . When I got there he wheeled it out of the garage and it started on one pull (as it should)

Maybe G - good catch on the trend & that's good info to know, Thanks. Will remember to keep an eye on this also.

Glad the old OEM battery is at least working to power the laptop in the interim - would much rather have an old (good) battery installed, vs. that LQM battery.

Focus these days here is systems (OS, networks) and software, but still end up working on a bunch of laptops every year, they add up quickly.

Batteries, works out to a few dozen or so, between direct purchase, or client recommended purchasing.

Maintenance is getting tougher, with the newer laptop models / the integrated heat sinks & fan casings - you basically have to disassemble half the laptop -> remove the top cover (keyboard/track pad, etc.) to expose the fan assembly for proper cleaning.. Or to access the internal hard drive.. Or to get to the integrated Battery pack inside.. Planned obsolescence. Sigh.

Now that should increase desktop purchases but people don't give a RA about upkeep.

Staples had two replacements for my battery, I opted for the holds charge longer one. I'll get a call when it comes in. Staples is about 1.5 miles from me.

Yeah I prefer servicable units of old.

My XPS 702 has been pretty easy to work on over its 7 years. Older unit.

Hard drive switch to SSD was a single screw for the HD cover-easy peazy
My honey's Dell Inspiron HDD replacement was a hassle due to having to remove the entire bottom cover of the laptop. I had also had to replace the display ribbon cable on another Inspiton of hers that required significant disassembly - youtube is your friend-well my friend, it takes $$ out if your pocket for us DIY users. :emb:

Replacing the charge port on my XPS due to heavy duty charge cable pulling on it over the years was harder as I had to get to the top of the inside case which meant removing a lot of components. The seller I bought the OEM Dell port from had a video posted on step by step. It was actually fairly easy if you took your time and it gave me a good look at the actual components used in the rig. For you, time is money but hopefully your billing by the hour. For me, it was saving money to take my time.

I have since bought a right angle charge connector that now takes the pulling pressure off of the charge port. Had the port been on the side and not the rear of the case it might not have been an issue, or if the laptop wasnt on my lap most of the time.

For Dell parts and information, this site has been good to me on several laptops, and yes I checked here for 9 cell batteries :p Dell Laptop Parts | Dell Parts | Dell Laptop Repair | Dell Repair There are likely cheaper outlets, but I like OEM parts and they are also helpful with information and questions.

Unlikley smokey, we are a dying breed. Many Millenials dont give a RA for buying quality and keeping it. Like jobs, they change electronics more often than underwear- many HAVE to have the latest flashy gadget.

Not sure if it's exactly the same, but I have a five year old 24" sno tek with that 208cc LCT engine. Zero issues so far. The only things worth mentioning are when initially starting up, it says no more than 3 pumps to prime. I do four and it starts one pull every time. The other thing is that my fuel shut off valve doesn't work 100% and the engine keeps chugging along.
