I've run echo, husky, stihl, tractor supply, jonsered you name it. What Evers on sale which is usually tractor supply oil the only thing I change is between regular and winter weight cause my saw oilers don't take kindly to pumping grease in the cold months

I'm a little bit snobbish for bar oil I guess. As long as it has a reputable name on it (stihl, echo, husky, jonnyred, etc) I will use it. I estimate I consume ~2 gallons per year. Cost of those is nothing to get worked up about. I do have summer and winter blend also. The winter blend does seem to oil better in freezing or below temps.

I have no idea if the lower cost no-name stuff is worse, better or the same? I won't knock it, cause I ain't tried it. I do refuse to put nasty used motor oil in my beloved saws though.

The stuff in all the stores is probably all the same stuff. And I think it's just left over 90w gear oil or 30w oil left over from a blender and then has additives added to it to be tacky. That is just my thoughts? Some of it smells a lot like gear oil to me? The more expensive stuff one would hope is a specified base and then there quality add pack is added to it for the tackiness.

Indeed that may be true. I just trust the name brands to sell me an oil that will lubricate my saws properly. I'm one of those fellows who probably runs his chains a little tighter than they need to be also, so any added lubrication benefits are a good thing for me.

I tend to run "higher spec" oil in all my equipment. My hydrostatic transmissions get nothing but factory oils. 11 year old truck has never known anything other than Mobil 1 and Royal Purple (t-case and difs). Motorcycle is the worst...factory specified Castrol @ $15 a quart...ugh.

How does the old saying about peace of mind go?

I pick up a couple of cases when I go to the logging show. I think I paid 8.00 a gallon for Husquavarna 2 years ago. I bought a case of regular and a case of winter weight. Still have 3 gallons of regular and 1 of winter.

I have a 27 year old ranger on original engine that has 308,000 miles one it, driven fairly hard. The one in my avatar actually. It have had it half its life. Rarely had anything other than walmart oil in it. Changing oil is the most important thing g really.

I assume it has the venerable 4 liter in it? I admit I'm not much of a Ford fan, but those are fantastic engines. I plan to keep my current pickup for that many years if the road salt doesn't disintegrate it first. It came factory filled with Mobil, so I stuck with it. I used to be a Castrol user.

Nope it's the VERY good proven 2.3L 4cyl. They made that block for decades.

This said in my newer toyota (04 Sequoia and 01 Highlander) get mobil1 or another full syn if it's on sale.

Penzoil conventional is a good oil that out performs many synthetics when you can pare add pack and protection.

My 37 year old Chevy k10 gets annual oil changes with conventional oil. It leaks a good bit and so few miles I don't want to just be wasting oil on that motor with the loss.

I will load the bed like that and pull the 4x8 trailer loaded. Not fast but it can do it. Let me look up a few pics, and see if I can further derail this thread

OK the truth. I usually try to keep a couple gallons on hand. The wife and I hit estate sales and yard sales on the weekends for fun. A couple quarts here, a gallon there - name brand, off brand I'm not picky when I can get it probably for less than 4 bucks a gallon. Most of it ends up being Poulan which works just fine.

Those old rangers are tough! The mini truck dirt track racers make a regular habit of building those 2.3 four boppers to 300 hp.

The Poulan stuff was good, from walmart. Mine does not carry it anymore. It is very tacky, loved the stuff

1984-86 they made a SVO Mustang that had a turbo 2.3. They also made a turbo coupe Thunderbird from 83-88 with the 2.3 turbo.

This car has the record for a 2.3 in the 1/4 mile.

There you go the SVO?? I thought it was SVT which stood for Super Vehicle Team? Maybe that's a newer acronym?
