Switched bars on my saw and after 10 minutes of cutting watched the chain fall lifelessly to the side and realize that the bar fell off. Feels like a total newbie mistake very glad there was no injury and mental note when switching bars to check and doublecheck how tight the nuts are. Chain drive links are damaged, sprocket looks ok. Probably trashing the chain.

No shame in a simple mistake, and certainly glad you or anyone else around wasn't hurt:)

You should be able to file any burrs off of the drive links and continue to use the chain depending on how bad it is. Got any pics? Of course trashing the chan would be fairly cheap insurance against it coming apart on you if it has hidden damage.. just my opinion.

Yeah man! On a good note the chain cut great before the incident so at least I am getting better at sharpening.

I will look more when I am less angry at myself! Possible it can be salvaged, will review when I have a clear head!

I've thrown chains in the past while cutting sagebrush firebreaks. Sage just got under the chain and as the sage and chain rolled around the tip of the bar, it came off. That little stopper under the bar really works well. Anyway, was able to use a flat file to clean up the drive links and the chain did just fine after that. Glad you didn't get hurt.
