Let's see pics of your vintage workhorse. If it's more than 30 years old, let us see.
Here's my '68 GMC 3/4-ton 4wd with 350 c.i. and 4.56 gearing. It's a wood hauling, snow plowing, stump pulling, tree-climbing beast. Almost 50 and still going strong.

great thread MrWhoopee but we got this thing called rust out here... so unless it's a stored only parade driven (in not used esp. for wood) we are lucky to see 15 to 20 max!

It's interesting, this truck was originally sold as a snowplow. It has 80lb lead weights on the rear axle and the 4.56 diffs were special ordered. We have snow, we have cold (though not arctic cold), what we don't have is salt.

Being able to order and customize trucks must have been awesome. Now it's "here is a choice between 3 packages, take it or leave it". The days of Heavy-halfs and Camper specials are long gone.

Very nice truck, you are right to be proud of it!

Sweet truck. That thing must have grunt!
It probably has a Rochester carb? What trans?

My dad has an 86' 454 Chevy dump for his business that they've had since new!(barely meeting the criteria 31 years!) With a Rochester quadrjet! When the newer blue ovals die or won't start which is common, it's the old truck that people have to drive!
It's great because it's a ford family and they abuse and try to kill the old truck:rofl:

IMG_0919.JPG This is a 57 I think just retired it last year but it sure was nice to dump out the wood instead of pitching it

Not sure about the trans. It originally had a quadrajet, but was very crudely replaced with a 2 barrel Rochester. Gets 6.5 mpg :bug:
I just acquired an Edlebrock quadrajet and manifold. Would like to get up to 10-12 mpg.

When I started this thread, I really didn't think old haulers would be that unusual. They're relatively common here, though anything pre-smog ('75) is starting to command a good price. I paid $1500 for the truck with plow and spent that much more on plow upgrade and other stuff. My neighbor just bought a '73 long bed with a solid 327 but needing electrical work for $1000.

It's just my beater work truck. Here's my pride and joy.

1/4 of a face cord in the trunk. It is air bagged so I can compensate for the extra weight. Thanks.
I have had the Buick for about 18 years now and the 46 ford for about 21 years. Both are running chevy 350's.

I lost track of the odometer, last one I remember was 327K in 2013. Ya we've replaced the carpet in the back a couple times from hauling wood.

There were two girls in a Buick very similar to that following me up the western highway on Friday. When I pulled in to a wayside stop near Horsham they pulled up as well so I got a good look. Nice old car, very rare here in Australia.

1972 3/4 ton, granny gear 4 speed. It's all there just needs some tlc. Never seem to have enough extra bread for the old truck. I should haul wood with it, but I don't...
