In short we decided to try more, to do our part..... We've been thinking of growing our family. I've been lucky to raise from puppies 3 awesome rescues who I consider my kids! I've posted links here and there of a rescue group from NYC "Rescue dogs rock NYC" They go above and beyond giving dogs a second chance. Alot of the dogs they rescue are beaten mutilated and neglected. They often need expensive and extreme life saving care. Their story's and extream saves and rehabilitation literally bring a tear to my eye. We always want more (kids) dogs and a puppy would have been great! My dogs would love a puppy and would create a really good dynamic. But an older or not a puppy anymore dog deserves a good life too! Especially one that's had it rough. We also really wanted another pit pit-mix(they are the bees knees) and perception of them is poor making it hard for them to find homes. In my opinion they are the best bread second to a true Heinz 57. We thought if we don't do it now(rehabilitate) we may never and it's the best time to try. I feel like we are shorting our dogs of a puppy and placing a burden on them getting a dog that's rough around the edges. But as a crazy dog family we are all going to sacrifice a little! We did the application process and got approved! We are setting up a day for this week-maybe next(pending volunteer transport). Straight from Texas! We are doing a "foster- adoption" hoping all goes well for permanent. We chose Duke.(hard choice alot of really great not as neglected dogs there that would have been easier) His story is a sad one. Who knows what he has endured. Dog Used As Bait Lived On Old Armchair For Days Before Being Rescued We are excited and nervous! We are Sad we won't have another puppy for a number of years but happy that we can change the life of this one dog. We hope to give him a warm Woodstove to wake up to panting(like the other dogs)and lots of time being a real dog with a pack of brothers (and) a sister in the woods. As long as he doesn't eat our cat things should go well! "Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever."
Great story! Alot of us on here are animal lovers and better yet, dog lovers. We are also rescue people, choosing a dog that could not have a forever home from the start and finding us part way in. And we'd do it again.
I truly think that pit bulls need to be matched with the right owners. All the dirt that has been done to them is cause and effect for much of the bad rep. they have. We have no kill shelters here. Many full of pit bull mixes who will need a lot of attention if they ever manage to be rehomed.
Set the day for Saturday! They will take him to their vet first, then we meet up north just outside of the city to drive him home! I just hope we can meet his needs and challenges. I feel like the Mrs is about to go on a doggy shopping spree toys more dog beds, vitiamins other nutritonal stuff(to help put on weight amongst other needs) his own toys and a collar!
There might be more adoptions if people were given a chance spend some quality time with the people that abused the dog.
The Mrs picked Duke up on Saturday! He has had a really rough week. They nutered him then right into transport Wich we didn't know. He is skin and bones! Heartworm positive! And can't forget about his hacked teeth(sickos). Calling the clinic he was at he has a stomach ulser as well. We have a vet appointment thursday for him and the other three! We took him out in the woods the other day. He knows literally nothing. He still loves people and food! Meeting my dogs was rough, especially after such a long g trip after being nutered. It seems he has learned to trust them though. He is definitely starting to cue off them. We have him in a "kennel"EDIT "crate" or cage as we call it for now. We are working on leash training and the basics like sit stay ect. I can't wait to just put food down again!(self regulation) I can't wait for off leash training
Is that him?...under the cat tail...that's a good thing, you were worried about the cat. I didn't (couldn't) read his story, what'd they do to his teeth?
