Finally split some wood and got to fill one of my new wood rack's. I took the time earlier this week to get the snow off of some of my firewood area so I had a place to work. We still have a lot of snow anywhere it's not been plowed. It was a pleasure filling this rack knowing it eliminated 2 more "handeling's", instead of throwing wood off the splitter into a pile for stacking, it went right into the rack, the rest is just tractor work. That's about 70 cu/ft in that rack.
fuelrod nice rack. Our fields are pretty much bare but the edge of the woods and within are still covered. Pretty deep in places along my trails. Got the quad good and stuck 2 days ago. I got off to see what was up and my leg sank over 2 feet
I built this a few years outta high school (I can't believe how old I'm getting) over 35 years ago out of what I could scrounge. The beam is way under sized but she just wont die. I've been wanting to build a new one as my skills & tools have improved in those years. Notice the hospital sink type "knee" valve, the rest of the splitter isn't much to brag about but that knee operated valve is "the chit" It was modeled from a Vermeer splitter that I saw in a parking lot. You didn't see a lot of splitters back then. It does go vertical but I only use that for huge rounds, horz position working height is about 40".
Mostly Beech, then some white birch & maple. I've got tons of Beech growing here and for some reason there's no market for the logs.
Anytime you handle the material less often is good. Going right from the splitter into the rack is great.
