The idea is to heat the intake enough to prevent the carburetor icing/frosting up. If it is set wrong, set it right and try again. You don't want that hot air going back to the carburetor.

Thanks, makes sense, once I get the fuel filer and line fixed I'll give it a shot.

anybody used the Lil'Red Barn Lil' Red Barn - Suitable Replacement Chainsaw Parts to order parts?

I just order my fuel filter and line from there because nobody in town had one in stock. Now I hope I can change it myself, the dealer in town wants $90 an hour!:hair:

Can't offer advice on your parts source but you definitely can do the work. One piece of advice, it can pizz you off. Not sure on your saw but if you feel like throwing it.... step away from it and come back a few minutes later.

Seems like exhaust leak to me. I dont know that i have ever seen a air cooled engine hot enough that it melted plastic, but exhaust, yes.

I am far from a saw mechanic, so take it for whats its worth.

Lil Red Barn is going to be an aftermarket line and filter. I have had exactly zero satisfactory experiences with aftermarket fuel lines and filters. (Nothing against LRB, have gotten good parts from them before.) OEM parts can be had from eBay fairly often or it's worth the wait if you have to get them ordered in.

Ok, after LRB sent my the wrong fuel line, they sent my the correct one for no charge. I got the new line and filter installed and now the saw will not start!:hair:.
Any suggestions? I'm about ready to take it to the shop and see if I can lose an arm and a leg to get it running right .

    Thanks guys

This saw has a primer bulb, yes? Does it firm up after a few pumps?
I'd take the plug out and dump a small amount of gas down the cylinder, put the plug back in and see if it will pop. If it is not getting gas it will only run for a second...if it is getting gas it may stay running after a round or two of this.

No primer bulb on the 260.

I did put some gas directly inti the cylinder and it ran for 30 seconds or so on full throttle then stalled on ideal. Tried yo start again and no luck

Did you have any throttle control while it ran?

It sounds like you might have a blocked or open impulse path. I can look on my 260 tonight and check for any likely trouble spots.

I bought a fuel line for my Stihl 028. They were less than satisfactory in resolving the over length line. Cutting it was their suggestion, which I did, but that caused the larger diameter part of the line, that goes on the carb, to be cut off. This just left the ribbing to hold the line on. I didn't like it and bought OEM like I should have done from the start.

They did nothing, despite me sending video of the problem, to resolve it. I won't be using them again.

I was wondering about that, the line seemed a little long from the tank to the carb causing a small kink in the line. I wouldn't think that small of a kink would cause the saw to not start?

I think I'll try trimming the line a bit, if that doesn't work I'll just go with OEM. Please chim in if you think that will solve my problem.

    Thanks again FHC!

Mine was rubbing the throttle linkage. I didn't like the thin part of the tubing connecting to the carb after trimming so I bought OEM. Here's a video of the interference with the line at full length.

Thanks guys! I trimmed the fuel line about an 1/8" fits much better now and the throtel linkage doesn't rub now. The small kink in the line must have restricted the gas flow.

Starts right up now!!! I just have to install the exhaust cooling plate that should be in tomorrow. If that doesn't take care of my over heating problems :hair::hair: I'm pulling my hair out!

Update.., finally got the exhaust cooling plate from the dealer and got it installed. Turned down the H on the carb and cut about 10 cookies at 18".

good news! no over heating at all, now I just need to get the carb dialed in a little better.
