Who wants to tackle this beauty . 18 inch maybe 20 at base. Hickory. Maybe 80 ft tall, hung up about 60 feet up on the maple with the messed up truck. Saturday's project, but would love to hear how others would cut this. Hard to explain in pics, this is on a 4 on 1 slope also, leaning down hill. Wow...that's ugly.
If you're gonna do it, please eventually describe how in detail.
I'm not skilled enough to make any suggestion about technique but I, like so many here will demand you stay safe!:handshake:

On nasty buggers like that..... I cheat. It only works if I can get close enough to hook up the long cable and tractor. I will bore cut and get it almost ready to fall, then let the tractor pull while no one needs to be close.

Yup, that's an ugly one! I don't think I'd attempt to figure out the best plan of attack just from pics myself, not on that one...more of hands on type...walk around and study it for a bit. Be interesting to see what others say...

Yeah, that's ugly. I leave those to their own devices if they are not in an area I need to be in.

I think if I had to, I'd get a rope/cable as far up the trunk as possible and see if my tractor or come a long could coax it out before I ever even fired my saw. If that failed....hmmmmm. haha! Whatever the case, be safe!! Not worth getting hurt over!

Is there another tree you can safely fall into it to knock it out of there? (just remembered, seen this on a YouTube video by professionals)

That's the joys of being on the three year plan. Let Ma nature take it down later and go cut something else.

Might be a bit excessive but could build a small fire under it and chopped away at it as a pivot starts to form. Ah what am I saying?? Bad idea.

I plan to try with a two ton come along to pull it away from the hang up, if that doesn't work I will try my skidding winch as it has more power, if that doesn't work there is a large beech tree up the hill from it. I might put a small cut into the maple it's leaning on first in any case. I will walk it down a few times first. The base is not holding much at all. Once the maple goes, it will come down. Not to hard, just careful cuts and some physics.

I have that one and another close to the same size that uprooted also. Luckily it is on the ground. That combined with 5 large beech trees the neighbor put down in his property makes me a happy hoarder.

I get this image of a mouse grabbing for cheese in a high strung mousetrap with an outstretched hand, eye closed and hand cupped for safety for this situation.

Unfortunately I don't have any advice but when I look at those pics, I say "ew weeee". I don't recognize that bark, what kind of hickory is it?

Glad I don't have to deal with it!

But with all those john deere and numbers after them in your signature, one of 'ems gotta be a tractor, no?

Like Ronaldo says, hook up at the base with a long cable/chain and give it a pull.

I do have a tractor with a skidding winch. I believe I can get it with a 2 ton come along, and clipping off a small portion of the remaining stump that is attached. If not, the tractor will get it. If I cut down the beech, I will video the carnage for the group. It's a 24 inch plus beech, so it should take it out. If not there will be a massive hang up and I may actually get worried. I will work on this Saturday, details to follow. Safety is priority.
