Always check the carfax - good dealers should even have links on their websites so you can see it without needing a membership. I've seen several low mile, nicely priced vehicles that when you get to the carfax says it has been in 2-3 time for tranny/clutch/engine shuddering or some such thing. Not necessarily on the vehicles that have been talked about recently, but still should check it out.

See if I can say this so it makes sense. Before I bought the truck, I had read that the tranny was slow to downshift. I can confirm that. I wasn't very happy with it and I tended to shift it manually. But over time it got better. I mentioned that to my oldest son, who rebuilds his own vehicles and is into that stuff. He told me that the new trannies can "learn" your driving habits and will adjust the shift pattern. All I know is it's a lot smoother and when it downshifts a gear, it accelerates rather quickly. I turn around 1400 rpm in 6th gear doing 60. That's how they keep the mpg up.

Uh, no. None of the reviews on the new Tacoma were very positive.

I paid $35K and change for mine. Base Colorado + 4WD+3.6 liter+Z71+tow package+ splash guards. I did add a bed mat afterward. And I bought the extended warranty for $2K. Total warranty is 7 years, no deductible.

I know a couple of guys that test drive the new Tacoma. It's a dog. Also, you need to be under 6 foot.

The comfort of the cab is the big issue. It was before the new models and they didn't fix it.

I looked at the Nissans too. Less money, but everything about it look cheap.

I had no choice. The Dodge wouldn't pass inspection, and it would have cost a lot of money to get it to pass. Plus I figured that after working for 50 years, I deserved a new truck.
