Found this thread yesterday and sorry to say I missed it when originally posted. What a nice spot to sit and relax in. Cigar room for sure!
I was a bit anxious to offer unsolicited advice right away regarding the heat shield, but it looks like it works well. I would have suggested to leave an air gap at the bottom and the top for giving the air behind the shield the opportunity to convect itself up and out from behind the shield once it warms up.
If you don't bring that along up here with your move, I'll come down there to help you enjoy it! ;)

Yooperdave, I did end up with it that way. And it works well. I have measured the temp behind it and it stays very cool  Chief

I was reading reviews on this stove and came across some good info in the reviews. If you need additional flue sections, take an existing section to a local muffler shop. They generally can make on the spot what you need, but it will be galvanized pipe most likely, and not black.

It's a good little stove, but because it is designed for an outfitter tent, it does need a little more height on the chimney. I thought about exactly what you suggested but since mine draws just fine, I never got there. Thanks for the input. Others will benifut from it. Chief

Thought galvanized would off gas into the room and that's not good???

True. But if you put it on top, on the roof side, not much chance of that. Just my opinion. Wouldn't worry a minute. Chief

I had thought about that too, but tfdchief has the right idea. If you can find a source for the black pipe, have a local muffler shop swage one end of each pipe section. Still looking online for source of the right diameter pipe. 3-3/8" OD pipe TFDChief? Probably 1/16" thick?

But would it pass building code? And would it really be that much cheaper cost wise?

Probably not x 2 milleo. Some reviewers have taken to fabricating an adapter to hook this stove to standard 6" flue pipe (setting aside supplied pipe for future camping expeditions) to get around the extra flue pipe availability issue. Either way, I suppose the draw is good on this stove. Looks like a winner to me for canvas wall tents, shacks, shanties, sheds and maybe even deer stands.

By the way, that's a gnarly wood shed there TFDChief. Self-designed shed?

After doing some online sleuthing, I find that these are Chinese knock-offs of Swiss Army "Wildo" stoves, easily sourced out of Europe if willing to pay the shipping + more $$ for the initial cost. This one's a lot cheaper of course. This HQ stove is fabricated completely out of galvanized steel with a black high-temp finish (except for the cast door), thus the recommendations to do your first couple of progressively hotter burns outside. Some Amazon reviewers are using double-walled pellet stove flue pipe to extend the flue and say it's a perfect fit, but I'm not in a position to validate that claim. Just some extra information to help out current & future fellow hoarders.

As to milleo 's point about building code, while a good idea to follow building code because it's designed to keep us safe, it's typically not enforced on the sub-20'x20' structures this stove was designed for, temporary or permanent. Your municipal, county or state codes may vary.

I am buying one of these stoves very soon for a future camping project I have in mind.

All good comments and input. And no Milleo, nothing about it meets the codes. I would not recommend putting in your house. You will just have to meet with your code official and see if he will approve in your application. Little known fact is that a code official has the authority to grant a unit and install as "approved". Same as a UL or other national recognized approval. Most are reluctant to do so, but I have done it when I was sure it was safe. Chief

I know this thread is several months old but i just came across it. I just bought the same hq issue wood stove and installed it in my shop, the Chimney wasn't long enough so i bought a 2ft section of selkirk 3 in nat gas vent pipe, double walled its a perfect fit. Im curious as to how you made the spring handle Chief, would you mind if i duplicated it?

That pipe that you bought sounds like B-vent....it is not rated for a wood stove-no way, no how!

Please replace it! They are only rated for 470f degrees.....

Sorry BS5000. Don't get on much in the summer. I didn't like the little handle that came on the stove so I just made a new one from stuff laying around. Chief
