Got to dig out the rest of the chunkies, bring them up by the house, use them up so I can fill the crate back up when I start splitting.
Actually it is kind of a stove Tetris to get those Oddballs stacked in their good, so they don't fall against the glass while burnin. You're not going to get a tight pack
Still seems worth it when they are small enough to just line the box, Im wondering about the glass myself, if theres anything of a fix I wonder if this is ok? Put some chunks on the bottom then get a piece of board thats ok to burn, no paint. Im thinking of some sort of siding or fencing like cedar or a pallet slat the size of the woodstove across. Put that down across the glass face but not touching and then fill the rest of the firebox quick enough so that you're just getting the best of the load. I do the same thing when I pack boxes with 2 x4 or 6 ends from the lumber. Filling a computer paper box has got a bit of fun to it now.
HDRock if you have room, it might be a good idea to bring that little wagon along when you come to the GTG. I remember a few people asking about it and I too have wondered about picking one of those up. So it could possibly help out a few guys to see it in action or better yet, use it!
Yeah , the little buggy is handy dandy , tires that came on it are crap, lasted a couple years , I have 2 no flat tires on it now and need another one now $17 a piece
I got a bunch of those too. Along with the punks and uglies they are all shoulder wood to me. Decisions, decisions... not sure what to do out of laziness, use the regular splits I have left from the season or bring up the shoulder wood to finish off the burn season. As I type this laziness is winning me over.
That's what I was doin , using the regular splits when a should a been using chunks , got my but in gear yesterday , I have another crate too.
This kinda stuff is all my lil stove in the fireplace ever gets to eat...the wood furnace gets the grade A stuff. I built a bunch of wood crates out of recycled pallet boards...bring one into the garage whenever I run outta stove snacks
My neighbor has one, put 300 lbs of black locust in there and just pulled it with ease. Worth the dough.
It is amazing how much the temperature can vary in such a small distance. You are almost always warmer than we are. I think most times you also get more snow than we do.
We might be getting a few nights above freezing Spring may be close Might be a long shoulder season But warmer weather will be welcome
It was April , I think it was 1973 plans were to go to the drive-in on the weekend and bam woke up to about 2 feet of snow car was gone , out there in a drift somewhere . Never know whatcha gonna get
Not 30", but we got about a foot of wet heavy snow on 4/1/1995. I was working at a Ford dealer and we had to move every car in the place to plow...good times
