Sorry, but I'm not sure what this one means. The air wash tube that goes from front to back doesn't have any openings on the bottom if that is what you mean.

no, the airwash bar is the horizontal section which is between the ash door and the upper door. The openings at the top is where your air come thru to try and limit the amount of ash ion the glass. Was an issue with some Accentra F/S's, haven't really seen anything on the P61's, but hey, its something to check!

I did not read everyone's reply but it is creosote and I would bet the venting is very very very dirty. Time to clean it and the stove.

Venting is not too dirty. Like I said, it has always been like that and hasn't gotten worse. The picture was before cleaning. This is the extent of sticky buildup within the stove. The venting termination has a slight buildup but not sticky. When I clean the venting system (each ton to ton and a half) with the linteater I scrub the termination piece quickly with a wet sponge and it looks like new. Maybe replacing the gasket will eliminate the buildup completely on the termination piece. I have always attributed it to the type of venting (Selkirk DT) and since it only takes a couple extra minutes and is very accessible, it never really bothered me.

Is the Selkirk the pipe that allows combustion air to flow through?

    Yes.
I know you have said before that you do not like that type of venting design. So far though, I like it. Seems as if my only complaint about a slight buildup on the termination piece is more a stove gasket issue than venting design issue.
