What kind of Napoleon do you have? I have looked for some stoves of the brand and the Timberwolf caught my eye. Theres a 2100 and 2200 model of similar size just a hair bigger on the 2200 but the prices seemed decent with a very efficient heating percentage (85%!) anyways PM me if you know more.

 

Just below freezing here. Some rough looking poplar in the stove and that's okay. Don't exactly need premium wood like willow tonight.

There is also that guy in Potsdam who has the toilet garden in his yard!

 

32 here also, I lit a small warm the house fire with s/s wood that I'll let die out in an hour or so.

Oh we caught it haha! Fresh cut that stuff and TRY to burn it...
I was at a house before mine and trimmed the willow tree. I swear you could have had a gallon of water in a few minutes just off a cut limb about 2 inches across near the trunk. Just dripped in the spring. The "sap" that rains down from those trees, not to mention the aphids was a real PITA!!!!

 

I've burned seasoned willow and thought it was okay, but man oh man does that stuff have a will to live. I cut some a few years back in a low area by a slough. A few pieces got left behind, and the next time I saw them, they had about 3 feet of fresh sapling shooting straight up.

 

Heh tell that to Tom (Horkn). Appears that there are different kinds of aversions ranging from "if its free and the only wood I have ill burn it"!l to "wood sucks" to colorful expletives describing the rapid burn low heat potential that hardwood hardies get when mustering up a fire in a cold flue about willow. I guess in temperate places it has its place for the time being, im the same about cottonwood. But since I get that in primarily one location, I wanna stick to that because its ok in bigger quantities with mixes of wood.

 

We had 36 this morning with another load of cherry in the liberty.

 

I have a 1401 insert. It's an older model but does well for me. Heating 1300 square foot two story cape, built in 40 with whatever insulation they used back then. I did put all new double pane vinyl windows, 2" foam board insulated rim joists and have tried to seal up my old doors as best as possible, I plan on putting new doors in soon. I do really have to push the stove when it's teens and below but can cruise right along in the 20's and above and be very comfortable.

I haven't heard of the timber wolf but I did a quick search and they seem nice. Must be a newer model for Napoleon. If the quality is like the older models I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again. My opinion of Napoleon is that they are a solid middle of the road stove, not the cheapest, not the most expensive but somewhere in between with a above average build quality for the price point. Sorry I wasn't too helpful about the timber wolf line but just throwing out my opinion of my current stove. Anyone have info on the new Napoleons though, I too would be interested as a new one is probably in the future with in 5 years.

Wel if it helps ro ask its me asking how You feel about the stove and brand. You feel it is built well? How old are we talking about?
Im looking to have a leg standing stove for optimal air and circulation reasons. Have used this kind before in my parents only theirs was a two glass door stove and firebox is TEEENY TINY! if i look at what it is, I figure out why but what is said about Napoleons is here and there but so far the ratings seem to be really positive with Napoleon Timberwolf but its best if i get word from someone who uses the family. Tell you what I'll Pm u and maybe if i stay in the Napoleon topic we can bring others in the mix.

39ºF outside right now. Burning red oak.
Might not load up in the morning, it's supposed to be sunny and nice, 50-something even.
Supposed to be cold tomorrow night so will probably get the stove going again tomorrow afternoon late in prep.
Probably be burning 24/7 right thru the weekend and then we get a warm spell.

 

Mighta' made a mistake loading the stove so full tonight. Going down to 28OAT.
It's already 75 IAT and climbing. Load isn't even Oak.
It's just about time to start using up the Maple, so that's what went in this load. Plan to resplit a bunch more for taking the chill out here and there. I think the worst of the weather is about done.
Yeah, I know....I just jinxed myself. Oh well, still plenty of wood left.
