Managed to beat the rain to this pile of pine that has been sitting inconveniently in the front across the driveway from the house. Only cut a little, as the other logs are pretty iced up. The new milled bar I got performed well with a freshly sharpened loop. Like a hot knife through butter with this soft stuff.. Hoping the rain stops for a half hour so I can get the small stuff split and moved. The bigger rounds will have to wait for snow melt and some firmer ground do I don't tear things up too bad (or get stuck!)
Got the smaller stuff done - all cut pretty nicely to my preferred 24" length. So much easier to stack when everything is the same length. Hopefully we will thaw and dry up some day so I can finish the rest. Thank you, weather!
Wow, 24", that's big in my book. In what are you burning those big boys? And nice work. A short day in the wood pile is better than a day at the office.
Yes sir - a few more days like this and the front will be empty, pleasing the wife greatly. The big logs are further back - can't wait to get into them. Burying the bar in pine at full bore is fun, makes the 362 feel like twice the saw it is. I like practicing a perfectly straight cut on the big ones, too. I feed a Woodmaster 4400 with this candy. I was doing 30" before I got some hydraulic assist, but the splitter is only good to 24", so that's where the saw is marked. Now I load horizontally rather than vertically, if that makes sense, and full in the sides with vertical splits if it's cold enough to warrant it. A lot of my wood is bucked before I get it, which makes for some ugly stacks and interesting stove loading, but I'd rather deal with those problems than paying the oil man!
odd sized rounds can be annoying, but theres something to be said for free wood where you can just load and go!
