Mine get tossed aside along with anything that I suspect might be buggy. Then they get moved over to the firepit

Good idea to sell some for camp fire wood
I burn mine in the fire pit
(2 year + seasoned of course )

 

Stack them on top of your stacks, then skim them off for the first burns of the year when you don't need to pack your stove full.

 

It seems to me ugly's are packed with btu's. One year I stacked some of my wood in a circle, about 12 foot in diameter. I thru the ugly's inside of the ring. Out of sight and easy to store. Ready for the outdoor furnace.

Yes, save the BTUs for heating your house. They took time and effort to get to your stacks, put them to good use.

However, at a fire pit with friends is a great use of uglies too.

 

Hoping to sort out my uglies for this reason and if too big then leave them for the bonfire.

 

Same here. Going to build a little pallet container for them near the fire pit

 

There is no such thing as uglies at my house, I just toss them in a pile, on top of the stacks or into the boiler as I am splitting. Crotches are my favorite part of the tree as it is normally the densest part of the tree which means longer burn times. If I took the time to cut it it won't go to waste.

 

Agreed! I never have a spam problem with Craigslist use it all the time. Any hoot I have tossed them aside and made a pile of them. Am not really sure what I am going to do with them. Anything rotted bad or buggy I might toss deep in the woods other decent stuff I'll probably find a home for them away from my pretty wood

 

Dave: Did you lay the 6 sided stone directly on the ground or a sand bed? Building a fire pit area is on my to do list.

Thanks all. I have burnt the smaller ones. My stove has a small firebox and don't know if I could split some of the larger ones down to fit. May be a project when I get worked through the wood I already have down and the rounds. The new stove may also be replaced by next season. Not overly satisfied with this one. The uglies are just getting ahead of me now.
I will have to get one of the kids or grand kids show me how to use CL.

the granite river rock don't hold up well though,
"to do list" has line the pit with fire brick

 

Thanks Dave. Sand based is the conventional wisdom around here. Just wasn't sure with the irregular shape.
Stay warm My sister from Anchorage just left yesterday to go home. She said it was colder there than here when she left. I image it was a lot colder in your area.

Well said Butcher, I too burn them in the stove. Why waste them? I'll find a way to make them fit.
