So me and my lady went to see a sugar house today in the Catskills This place was awesome. The evaporator is a thing of beauty. Not running today. They said tomorrow. Sap still flowing. The fellas up at Catskill Mountain sugar house were kind enough to show us around. And the syrup. Oooooh boy saaaaaweeeeeeet
Looks awesome! Some of the guys have impressive operations. Was the place you went a distribute for leader evaporator?
not sure if I'm understanding the last part of your question. But this is the only evaporator. I saw there
Down from my dad's house in the catskills there is a big sugarhouse, not only do they make the syrup, but they distribute all the things needed to dyi.
Oh ok. No they don't. Just syrup The gentleman that owns this house let me hunt some of his other properties this place was incredible. 60,000 taps and a 1/2 mile of tubing. Craaaaaaaazy. The place was spotless.
The Mrs says we will be buying taps , buckets , and covers next year. Looks like we're taping trees near the house .
Back in the early 2000's, I stopped by an older finlanders house to look at a Harley he had for sale. After BSing awhile, he showed me his "sugar shack". Like the one posted above, large evap, clean, lots of stainless, and of course-the knotty pine interior-very nice setup
What cigar is it that you would have lit up? Something about getting out in the spring once the sun starts shinning strong and the weather warms above freezing that makes it true to hang out in a sugar shack all day!!!
Today is Maine Maple Sunday, most of the sugar houses are open to the public for tours and tastings About Maine Maple Sunday
I love it, Maine Maple Sunday. that's going on the bucket list. Dave, same time each year or depends on the sap run?
I'm bummed because we didn't fire up our evaporator this year. The yo-yo Temps screwed everything up here....
Maybe a montecristo. Someone gave me a really good cigar a while back and I can't remember what it was. I might have the label someplace. But it was smooooooth
That is amazing the sap is still running. Trees too far gone to have taps in them now here. It was an early run this year for this area and once the buds start popping out, it is done for the year. Those who waited to tap this year did not get much syrup. Seems the tapping is starting earlier every year here.
