The free tarp is nice; they even gave me one free for buying nothing. Also, the little digital meter is nice if they offer it when you are going to buy something; throw it in the toolbox and not worry about damaging that expensive fluke when you have an electrical issue on the old 8N out in the field. And if all you are using a meter for is testing voltages on AC house lines and DC machinery why did you waste money on that fluke in the first place :D

harbor freight or as I call it hazard fraud, I walked thru their store once. it all looked like cheap junk that would break the first time I used it. just like big lots.

good tools cost money, cheap tools cost more.

I knew someone who got a law suit settlement. it was for that ab shocker... she didn't file any paperwork. and she didn't even know there was a law suit against them. a check just showed up one day. the check was for $1.30. I think the ab shocker cost her $20?

Some of the suits you actually have to opt out of if you don't want to participate. I know the one against the online ticket seller was that way. But that was because of collusion or some such thing - something that definitely affected all customers thru all ticket sales.

Most suits you have to put your name in, and then provide proof - receipts and such because the issue probably didn't involve all customers or all merchandise.

The jack stands I brought look good and solid to me; the extra long break bar I brought looks solid; for $8.99 it is worth keeping in the boot to help in changing tyres. The torque ratchets I brought look well made and my friend said he tested them against Snap-on and they were accurate. The hitch adapter I brought looked as solid as could be and at $15 was way below any others I perused. The rack I brought for the front of the tractor looked good and solid and was way cheaper than similar I saw elsewhere. There are some things that are cheap and one can avoid them but other things are well made. I almost made the mistake of buying a palm sander from them that was on offer at somewhere around $14.00. However, after reading the reviews I found out it was a waste of money. That is the key in shopping at Harbour Freight, first read the online reviews from people that have owned and used the product; they will steer you clear of items that are questionable in quality.

Agreed! All the lawyers want is more names attached to the lawsuit so it looks good, you won't see a cent, not worth my time! I do shop there from time to time for little odds and ends. I also have bought some of their tools "Chicago Electric" haven't had any issues. They are GREAT for buying that tool that you use only once for doing a job and really never use it again or use it very very little. Example I bought an angle grinder to grid out a brick above my fireplace for my TV. I used it once and will probably never use it again or if I do it will be one and done again (probably why I don't have issues). The Chit I use all the time, miter saw, table saw, nail compressor, nail guns, etc... etc.... I buy higher quality! I have bought a few camo tarps from them for the wood stash.

Just wondering...what stops a person from being dishonest about what they bought? :p

They limited the amount to a $10 gift card from Harbour Freight if you just sign a statement you purchased without having proof. So Harbour Freight will still be making money from those without proof because they have to spend the card at Harbour Freight.

I must not have read far enough into the email I got. It said that I had to provide receipts - but may have provided a way further down to claim without receipts.

Here is an excerpt from the email I received.

If you are a Class Member and the settlement is approved, and you timely file a Claim Form, you may be entitled to a payment as follows:

OPTION A. Customers who have itemized Harbor Freight receipts reflecting one or more purchases between April 8, 2011 and December 15, 2016 with a “you saved” amount reflected on their receipts can submit copies of those receipts and elect to receive either 20% in cash, or 30% in a Harbor Freight gift card, of the total “you saved” amount listed on their receipts, excluding any amounts reflecting free items or items that were later returned.

OPTION B. Customers who have credit or debit card statements reflecting one or more purchases at Harbor Freight between April 8, 2011 and December 15, 2016 can submit copies of those statements and elect to receive either 10% in cash, or 12% in a Harbor Freight gift card, of the total Harbor Freight purchases on their credit or debit card statement(s), excluding any amounts reflecting items that were later returned.

OPTION C. All other customers who made purchases at Harbor Freight between April 8, 2011 and December 15, 2016 may submit one declaration, signed under penalty of perjury, stating that they purchased an item from Harbor Freight (other than a free or later-returned item) that was advertised with a higher reference price (e.g., “reg. $XXX,” “only $XXX,” or “comp. at $XXX”) adjacent to a lower current offering price, and that they do not have itemized Harbor Freight receipts or credit or debit card statements of their Harbor Freight purchases. Customers submitting this declaration will receive one $10 Harbor Freight gift card.

I prefer not to feed the beast and further a litigious culture. I'll vote with my wallet if I care enough.

You know, there was something about milk and other common dairy products that ended recently. $40 was the common payout for that.

Won't participate in this one and didn't in the milk one either.

Maybe this is how some get their income? Hope not.

When it comes to the corporate world, have you ever thought that if corporations were not try to screw over everyone that there would be a need for these lawsuits? You know, like John Deere screwing their customers by forcing them to buy their over priced service for their tractors.

It is how the lawyers get their income; the customers are going to get a few dollars. However, see my reply to lukem.

The only ones getting anything significant out of the settlement will be the ones that spent a lot of money at Harbour Freight.
