I was kinda taken back, made in Mexico and "produced with genetic engineering" we can't even profitably make cookies here anymore. And the other is scary, how long before cookie adds on TV will list possible side effects like drug adds do. Well, I'm fat anyway good reason to stop eating them.
I noticed a change in Oreo Blizzards from DQ late last year. I called and complained thinking the local DQ switched for a cheaper brand. Nope, there is something different about them. Now I'm on a new quest to replace an Oreo Blizzard with chocolate ice cream as my sweet summer fix.
When did they stop saying Nabisco ? I have to open my eyes more. Wunder what else I'm blindly chomping on.
From Wikipedia-- "In 2015, Mondelez announced its decision to close some of its American factories and move Oreo production to Mexico, prompting the Oreo boycott.[29] In 2016, after production had started in Mexico, the AFL-CIO encouraged the boycott and published consumer guidance to help identify which Mondelez products were made in Mexico.[30] In July 2016, Oreo cookies ceased production in Chicago.[31]"
So sad. About 25 years ago I did some work for Nabisco Chicago. A lot of people were involved in producing those. The bakery is pretty dang big, a lot of employees.
It has to do with the Sugar Lobby/subsidies. Also some union involvement as well. That said, I will not eat anymore of them. Can't ever find the good ones anyways...Goldens with chocolate cream. This is the wakeup the US needs...if our money is good enough to buy a product, our labor is good enough to produce it...in my own humble opinion.
I haven't ate them since, got some friends that lost jobs because of it. There are clones of Oreo and the girl scout cookies. Been paying a little more for anything with the flag on it. Don't get me wrong there are many fine products that are from other countries I love my jonsered but we need to invest in each other to be competitive.
I'm gonna put some oeros on the shopping list and try and see if I can taste the difference. The Mrs buys them, never noticed. I don't care who makes them!
I hear that, a regular Bakery has way to many goodies. I'm talking about the local grocery store bakery.
