I was too pizzed to post what happened then... ... here's what my finely tuned skills came up with... lol. Here's my story (an I'm stickin' to it)... after shovelin out, and roof raking, from the 1st big snow dump we had this year, I decided I'd use the JD bucket to push the snow out more into the drive (so I could plow it away with the Jeep), from the inside of the garage. I do this all the time. So... I push a bucket out, turn around to see where I'm backing and back up into the garage again for the next bucket load. On the 3rd or 4th run, when I turned around, the button on my coat apparently pushed the door's remote button in my chest pocket. I can't hear the door running because of the tractor... and I back up... the door made it down about 1/2 way when the back of my seat made contact and pushed me forward all the way to the crossbar beyond the steering wheel. It happened so fast, and I was toast from bullin snow... I had no idea what was happening. Thankfully... just as the door was really puttin' the squeeze on me against that crossbar, the left upright channel on that crossbar made contact with the door too... and tore the whole thing off the tracks while bending the door in perty good... there was chit flyin' everywhere... ... ... I got off the reverse pedal right about then... . I did a lot of ... ... ............ and... @#$%&^*%#@$*&^%... Thankfully, Overhead Door in Augusta saved the day, and within 3 hours had the bent door usable and working again. They'll be here today to replace the lower 2 panels. Felt better when I called em... said I was the 3rd one that day (prolly tell everyone that)... insurance co did too. So... I learned once again to pay attention... especially when I'm tired. Seems to always be when I make the biggest fine messes...
Kinda like spacin' out on approach and not pulling back on the stick as the ground comes up on ya... ... yep, that vertical steel saved my butt. It all happened in about 1.5 seconds.
When I was a kid we left the door open 6" for the cat and I crawled under to get something out of the garage. While my sister went through the house and tried to be helpful by opening the door and it had to go down before it went up. Squashed me like a bug 1/2 way through a belly crawl. Sister freaked out and my dad came and couldn't so anything but laugh knowing the pressure sensor did its job. Still gets lots of laughs these days
Stinny glad your safe.. the good news if money can fix it it's not a real big problem.. not trying to sound trite.. but money hasnt fixed cancer yet.. that's what insurance iso for.. oh and something just to prove to ourselves we aren't perfect yet... it's happened to all of us.. why wife with smallest vehicle get widest garage door.. but I'm not allowed to tell that story!
Thx CBV... Well... this story just got a little more "fun" ... the guys just showed up to do the repair... without the new panels onboard... guy says, after realizing the prob... so, what are we doing anyway... ... back to Augusta they went... (bet he has more coffee on the way)... stay tuned...
If it makes you feel any better.. Back a few months ago, after shoveling/roof raking all day & still snowing overnight, exhausted & had to get to work way early next morning, thought it would be a "great" idea to put the 2-cycle single stage snowblower in the porch room, to clear the walk & driveway in the am.. Start it up, and out the door to the driveway in one shot, right? Took about 20 seconds to fill the porch & laundry rooms with a blue smoke haze... and set the smoke detector off. Wife was SUPER happy. (Not really.) While I opened windows, and left the door open to exhaust the fumes for about an hour. Smoke detector worked great though. Glad you're ok there Stinny.
Glad your ok buddy! That could have been much worse.... difficult to explain how you got JD green and Overhead Door white on your person to the paramedics! If that was me in that situation, I would be checking to make sure it wasn't my better half that didn't push the button on me.... and try to blaim it on the old "must have been in your pocket" thing...
Had a visit from ol' Murphy, eh? Glad it wasn't worse. Like my wife told me after I ripped the front fascia off her van a few years ago......that's what insurance is for.
Our ins has a $1000 deductable, and the door fix is gonna be $950... ... the ins co did send us a check for $340, with not much of an explanation. I had only given them a copy of the $950 quote to fix the door. We'll take it anyway.
Well, my wife has backed the atv out of the barn twice now. Her head cleared the door but not the windshield....Honey, please raise the door all the way!
My only thought when it happened too... ... oh well, the guy just left. All repaired like new. I've decided to keep my door demos down to just one a year so... that's it for 2017...
<<< Imagine the smiley head is missing, and the brick wall is replaced with a garage door...... Glad yer ok and over it Stin
This, is a gooder plan. Pretty smart of you to think of it so quickly. And to think, you got it done fairly early in the year.
Tough break stinnster, and as the saying goes "chit Happens". Murphy must have been sitting on the back of the tractor that day. Glad nobody was hurt (but some ego maybe) and the door was repaired.
