I got an email about a class action suit in which Harbour Freight has agreed to a settlement over misleading sales. I have often questioned their "sales" especially the one that I got that stated "lowest prices ever" or some such thing. I knew that some of the items in the brochure had been on offer at lower prices. Also, the suit was about their "compare to" prices not always being accurate.

If you haven't gotten such an email, you might want to search about the settlement if you have purchased from Harbour Freight over the last several years. There are three different ways to get some sort of compensation from the settlement; which unless you purchased a lot and some high price items is not going to be a lot but hey, anything is good.

Not judging you or anyone else - but I don't participate in these settlements.

I participated in a few and I never saw any payout. Probably won't this time either.

Lawyers make all the money from these. Us customers get a check for 83 cents or something tiny. Not hardly worth my time.

Yes, I think they first pay out all the big guys; then the rest of us are just out of luck. Even so, I plan on filing.

Let me get this straight. HF advertised lowest prices? And someone found lower prices? And filed a lawsuit? :picard: Really?

Great use of court time, no?

I think every furniture store has advertises something along the same lines.

How about vehicle dealerships? Kinda the same thing. How often have you heard "We will not be undersold"

I guess I was too vague on the details figuring that people interested would go look it up on the interweb. Basically they settled a suit that claimed they violated the law; and they stated they had not violated the law. You know how it goes, we don't claim we did anything wrong but are settling because it cheaper than fighting the suit; sort of thing. I guess I could go to the email they sent to me and copy and paste the details but if anyone really wants to know, it is out on the interweb.
The main purpose was to inform anyone that was a customer of Harbour Freight that they might can make a claim and get a few dollars; even if it is just a coupon off on a future purchase. They do have some good buys; I brought a pack of five leather gloves that comes to just a little over a dollar a pair. They are the same glove I have paid around $2.50 a pair at other shops.

There are truth in advertising laws for a reason.

I never found their prices to be that good of a deal.
For a few bucks more you can buy good chit elsewhere if you really shopped it out.

I don't buy often from them (not one close to me), but when I do, I research the heck out of it. I also research the heck out of anything I buy from anywhere else. I've been happy with they buys I've made, especially the heavy wood work bench I purchased and got free shipping - all at the lowest prices I've ever seen them advertise - even with super coupons. Anyway, I was happy and never felt I got ripped off, so I won't participate in the suit. If I was unhappy at the time, but never got resolution, then I would participate.
