I do "lots" of cherry here, I let it season at least 2 years till the bark starts falling off If not, Black cherry can play hell in the creasote department! CHeath, if you have a moisture meter, try and get it down to 12% minumum, Just a suggestion. Nice haul!!!!
Love cherry but don't have much of it. Only one large tree that the horse farm hired me to remove. You enjoy that wonderful smell and save some for your smoker or grill. It makes everything tast great.
I've got a stove full of cherry right now. It is definitely one of my favorites. Splits easily by hand, dries quick, and burns great. It is right up there with ash on my favorites list.
It dries pretty dang fast. Some guys on here still let it dry for 2 years. When you do the bark has fallen off and it's in the low teens on the moisture meter but I am behind in wood storage so I'll be burning it just 7 months after it's cut. It should still be 20% by then. Smells good also.
Black cherry is great to burn, I'll burn it dead standing after only a few months of being split usually one summer just like Ash. It's far more valuable(one of the most valuable species) as lumber than fire wood though. I burn the tops!
