It is COLD and windy here. I've got a mix of black locust, red maple and hackberry and it's keeping me nice and toasty.
It's still 13 out and with the basement at 83, I shut down the pellet stove and loaded the wood stove up with cherry for the overnight burn. Looking out the window tonight it looked like we received a good amount of snow and the warning is still on until 8 p.m. tomorrow.
20 and breezy with snow showers, packed that greedy hungry beast last nite like a tuna can. Locust, ash, cherry and walnut will be taking care of business.
We are at 8 degrees right now with large splits of Ash in the Wood Gun. Looks like about 15" so far. They are saying we could get another 3-6" today. We sure ended up with more snow than I thought we would get from this storm. Seems like almost every time we were going to get "3-6" this year we got 1-2". Not less with this storm.
This morning before I went out to push the 10" of snow off before work. A little ash, cherry and maple refire on last nights coals
Warmed up to -6 C ( 21 F) so far, so can't complain at all. Some small poplar splits feeding the reactor.
Its melting here. Were at plus 4c and very drippy from all the snow melting. Burned fir over night but the house is holding at 24c so its back to shoulder burning season patterns for us here. Ill light a fire this evening.
Had -5 this morning. Hope that it for awhile of the below zero temps. Lots of sun and just a mild breeze.
It's been cherry in the wood stove today and we'll load it up tonight with the same, it's 17 tonight.
Stove had been cold ~month loaded up some SYP and red oak last night. Came home this afternoon and the GF is content with furnace kicking headed down to low 20's so we're cruising on some more 4yo red oak after a SYP start
20's tonight. Just got in from my bowling league to a bed of hot coals from the black locust I loaded before I left. Just added one big piece each of honey locust, hackberry and red maple and this baby is pushing out some heat!
Its a downright heat wave in the BC Rockies currently at 2c! Man is it warm out, Ive been walking around without a jacket. Ive got the stove stuffed with larch because I waited till 8 pm to start my top down fir fire so its doubtful I will heat out the family tonight. We were up to 6c/42f outside today so my house was able to cruise on last nights fire for most of the day with the furnace kicking on for a short while. All week is supposed to be above normal temps. I wasnt quite ready for mildness to be honest but normally non burning season is months away. Time will tell.
She just jumped up (with permission) to what we call the hot seat normally reserved for yours truly. We will see how long it lasts for this husky.
About 8 this morning with some wind. That system sure did bring a lot of wind with it. Ash in the boiler.
15 here this AM, Oak & Apple is on the menu today, I spent hours yesterday cleaning up the snow and opening trails, and of course, roof raking. Today I have to restock the the totally depleted wood boxes on the front porch. The good thing about doing that, is I enjoy doing it. :stacke:
Single digits for overnight lows. Almost close enough to put that little minus mark (-) in front of the number! I'm sure in the lower areas dipped below zero. Today will be sunny and in the mid 40's.
huh with 30 plus mph winds roof are clear here.. about 10 degrees burning ash elm and maple.. if somebody would shut door to Canada.. it would be nice but that 30 mph north wind is brisk!
