Did that come from the power co? Ours was doing that with CFLs a few years ago, so I took advantage. Almost everything in the house is now LED though.
I have never heard of such a thing. I would have jumped all over it. I changed all my indecent incandescent lights over years ago. they paid for themselves the first month.
I'm always perplexed as to why the power company wants ppl to use less electricity... is it because they don't want to invest in more infrastructure to keep up with increasing energy demands? do they get large tax breaks for promoting energy conservation?? we may never know without a google search. its like a big oil company promoting electric cars.
You ain't alone there thinking that! Bet it's government regulations that have to be conformed to....
It's kinda like... "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop? ...the world may never know."
perhaps it for PR? Its like alcohol companies promoting "responsible drinking" they aren't promoting sobriety... electricity suppliers don't promote going "off grid" they promote energy conservation.
I found this _________________________ "The utility has to present programs before the public utility commission and say, 'This is how we're going to promote energy efficiency.' It might be educational, or it might be a rebate for an old refrigerator, or they might ship energy-efficient light bulbs to the homeowner for free," says Todd Recknagel, CEO of the Charleston, S.C.-based AM Conservation Group, a company that specializes in creating customized energy and water conservation programs for utilities throughout the nation. A small catch. The utilities have a lot of incentive to make sure their programs actually save consumers money because when they work, the utilities benefit. "If they do hit their goals and targets and do well, the public utility commission will allow them a rate hike," says Recknagel. I'm actually very surprised they are giving away CFL's Weren't they outlawed yet? Mercury isn't exactly good for the environment...
People in the Pittsburgh area that have Duquesne Light can get their "Energy Efficiency Kit" here: Watt Choices: Online Energy Audit The instant analysis is the short one.
Well you're helping pay for it with your rates . It's not some new-fangled millionaire tax subsidizing it all. I got a bunch of cfl bulbs and a shower head a few years ago part of a "free" energy audit. I don't have easy access to my attic so they deemed our attic "energy compliant" without even looking. ( I've got like 4 or 5 inches of cellulose that is tagged to be R-13 or 19, I forget )
Well, one has to admit that it is fun to keep experimenting but it does get tiresome counting all those licks.
