At least it mentions burning dry wood.

It looks like they want to buy folks a professionally installed stove that meets 2020 standards. Let the games begin.

Just under $4000 per unit if it's 2.5 million for 630 units. Will be interesting to hear if the program is successful or not. Wonder how many people up there are smokers. Will be good to have some nice clean air for improved burning of their pipes, cigars and cigarettes. ;)

It won't happen, the present administration will kill it. I agree there are probably lots of regulations that are not needed. However, coal companies pushing mountain tops off into stream beds is not one of them; heard some 2000 miles of streams have been destroyed in that manner; streams that were probably good trout fishing before they were destroyed; streams that raccoons and other animals used for food.

They should require that all stoves be made in the USA.

What would be the purpose of this? Im not saying china has great stoves. But not all usa stoves are going to be able to work or be a source. Canada im sure sells good stoves and could work with the regs.

Another "good intentions" government move. I'll wager that the air quality could actually get worse with the new stoves. We all know that not everybody burns dry wood. I know personally that folks with newer stoves, especially those who have been burning for a long time, will not adopt the "hotter fire" technique needed in the new stoves and actually send more particles up the chimney than they did with their old stoves.

If I lived there, I'd take the grant, get a new stove, sell it and then drag my old stove back out of the shed and reinstall it. Pollution from woodstoves is pretty far down the list as far as environmental issues are concerned for me. The only folks who will benefit from this are the companies selling the stoves.

There were likely people who took advantage of the "cash-for-clunkers" program too but for the average/typical recipient it can mean the difference between upgrading or not and that "or not" means a lot to the many who suffer when air quality degrades.
Sure beats letting the treehugger hollywooders regulate wood stoves out of existence.
