    This just in:
"KINGSTON, N.Y. >> More than a foot of snow was on the ground in some parts of Ulster County before 10 a.m. (ME) Tuesday, and the National Weather Service in Albany warned the storm will continue all day.

The storm was expected to drop up 2 feet of snow or more on the Mid-Hudson and Catskills and make travel dangerous, if not impossible, due to gusting winds that will result in poor visibility, the weather service said.

In most areas, the snow will diminish by this evening.

Among local snow totals, just over a foot was on the ground in West Saugerties at 10 a.m., 10 inches had fallen in Phoenicia by 9 a.m., about 9 inches were on the ground in Kingston at 10:15 a.m., and Woodstock had 7 inches at 9:30 a.m.

Several counties — including Ulster (ME), Dutchess, Greene and Orange — declared states of emergency, prohibiting nonessential travel. Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency for all of New York and instructed nonessential state employees to stay home. He also announced a full travel ban in Broome County and a ban on tractor-trailers on several interstates and the state Thruway."

Been really windy here for the last hour or so. No idea how much snow. None on my car but foot and a half drifts.

2/3 of the driveway is done. Waiting for the wind to change around 17:00 to tackle the last bit. Current wind direction just sends it in my face.

Just had a gust over 50. Maybe 5 or 6 inches on the ground. It's quite a storm. Temperature has stayed at 33 or 34 all day so the snow is wet and heavy. The lights have gone off 5 times now but come back on after 5 seconds so I'm guessing branches dropping on the lines tripping breakers.

Been there and back. White out conditions on the way home. Technically not, but since a Miller Beer truck was in front of me, blowing any snow the wind hadn't picked up, I couldn't even tell he was there. I stayed a decent ways back (enough I could see something in front of me) and was glad I did. There is a turn in the road since it follows the river. The dumb azz had decided that curve was a great place to park his truck and high-tail it into the woods. Couldn't do that on the other 5 miles of straight road - oh no, on the curve :hair:. I'm guessing he needed to whiz (or maybe he scared the sh*t out of himself  ) . I was thinking, "damm, he could have made it to Mickey D's". However, they were closed. All's good except the wind is whipping everything around so much there is no point snow blowing. My neighbors will LOVE me if I have to do it at 2:30 AM.

Well, no, because it would be dirty when their patients came in tomorrow - and that is not acceptable (do you want to enter a dirty dental exam room for your appointment?). That is 9 exam rooms that would have had unhappy patients first thing in the morning. It is not something that can be "done later" - unless "later" is by 7am the next morning.

I was just happy they called me so I could get there and come home in the light of day instead of trying to see thru the blowing/drifting snow at 9 pm!

That is why they hire local people as cleaners - because there are no snow days.

Look at it this way, you know one heck of a lot more than most do about how things work, and how to do business. So you will work this out better than most would under the circumstances.
