I hear you. Unfortunately the younger generations have no idea what you're talking about.

    yup......

Although I scored big time a few months ago when a kid came in looking for a job. He graduated from an automotive school and was tired of working for AutoZone as a grunt. He is a hard worker, willing to learn and not afraid to get his hands dirty.....tough find these days and I knew I wanted him from the day he walked in the door

I have a contract worker working for me right now that was the same way. I knew before the interview was over I wanted her. After she left the interview, I told the IT supervisor who is in charge of hiring contract employees for computer work to go offer her the job before somebody else gets her.

There's always a few who can't seem to follow protocol to park on the other side of the building during snow. I feel like going ape chit and running the plow blade through the cars. I'll YouTube it if I do. :D

This kid came in off the street without knowing we were hiring. He was canvasing the area for the day looking for something (that in itself was a plus as young people dont do this anymore and it showed initiative) and had a few applications in . One to a machine shop and one to a larger manufacturing company that is known to be very good to work for and that was the one I was worried about. I spoke with the owner who had already met the kid for a few minutes and he liked the kid right off too.

After the service manager met with him 2 days later with the same impressions, I got the owner to offer him a good starting wage without trying to low ball. My offer was giving him a 4 dollar/hr raise from AutoZone and that we would train him from nothing (in relation to MFP equipment) knowing he had mechanical aptitude and a college grad.

When I called him with the offer, he wanted to think about it and would get back to me after the weekend so I pushed more and also asked if he had any more questions. I called him back after a few minutes and put him on the spot asking him what questions or concerns he had with making his decision right now as I pointed out that I was giving him exactly what he was asking for, he though about it and took the job-win for me and him :)

My service manager told me a few weeks after he started that he jokingly mentioned that I strong armed him into taking the job-my reply was you bet your azz I did

Would it be too obvious to plow them straight in instead of a berm from a sweeping plow

Me too. Working the day job from home today so my commute home doesn't turn into a 2.5 hour nightmare. However, still have to go to my night job - when the storm is supposed to be at its worst :headbang:

Not to mention my girlfriend is marooned at my house, since they closed the CT roads, apparently. God knows what she's doing while I am at work.
