    I didn't see the 'widowmaker' up in the top.

    So, with a widowmaker in a tree or a tree that is just pretty rotten but has limbs (and they could snap and fall on you)... how do you guys cut a rotten tree by yourself? Or do you not do that?

    I don't like to get too close to a serious looking widowmaker like the one in that picture. Sooner or later wind will bring it down and that will be soon enough for me.

    Me either but that one was hung up in at least three spots. It wouldn't move when I tried but it would have pivoted and swung if I cut any branch it was on.

    I had two spotters with me and I didn't look at the back cut for but a few seconds here and there. I was watching the top. Itl tell you what the tree is doing before the stump will

    Here is one of the base braches with my XL hand. Weve 2.5 full cord (4 truck and trailer loads) out so far from four of the 9 big leaders. I'm guessing we'll get 5 close to six cord.

    No Thor, this one I did not but as it was a neighbor's tree. Yes, I have cut some like this in the past but probably would not do it today. I'm older, weaker and less agile today than I were a few moons ago. And the only way one gets experienced in anything is to do it!

    Breechlock1 no matter how you look at it, that is impressive.

    One little difference is that I concentrate mostly on the kerf as the slightest movement will show there too and this way I also have view of the saw and where it is in the tree.

    I think it'll be okay with the mask and distance. Fuzzes just enough.

    quick update. We finished cutting up and hauling out the rounds on Thursday. We ended up with 11 truck and trailer loads. I'm guessing we got around 6.5 cord out of the tree. Now it is time to do S/S part of C/S/S wootwoot.

    Nice, very nice! How long will 6+ cord of seasoned oak last you?

    Well done! :salute::salute:

    And I'm only a little jealous :D

    A long time, as I'll only burn it for long overnight burns in sub 20 degree weather. I'm still working on a single cord of red oak that I started burning two years ago. I mix it with honey Locust. I burn a crap ton of ash though. 5+ a year
