Work and weather have been keeping me busy lately, but I finally got out to do some work in the woods today. I had to clear a path for an excavator. We need some big boulders moved. I spent about 2 hours cleaning out 3-8" junky understudy trees, mostly black gum and a few small red maple and black birch. No pictures, too boring. Barely any firewood since I have officially given up on splitting gum. I've got 10+ cord of chestnut oak to work on so no wasting time on gum.
Good to be at it. The worst time spent with a saw is still better than the best time at work for most of us, right? Black birch is fantastic - hope you saved them for burning!
Oh yeah, I save all black birch. As many BTU's as oak, but dries in 6-12 months. Can't beat that with a stick.
Boulders and path through the woods - straight down the middle of the picture then hang a left at the big oak. Typical tree stump (dead, rotten birch) Biggest tree stump (gum) And finally some Firewood (black birch, smooth bark, bucked at 16") The longer stuff with the coarser bark is junk gum.
