I felt prompted to post this thread in regards to the recent rash of posts complaining about our policies regarding politics in our forums and "why don't we allow this" and "why don't we allow that" and " you guys are repressing me and my rights to free speech", or " you sheep herders won't EVER suppress me"........

Well, as we've said many times, tirelessly and endlessly, it's not going to change here folks. Ever. And while we may never "suppress" you, if what you post doesn't fall in line with our very simple rules here, it will be removed.

To help you understand why we won't allow some things, you can easily join another forum for a while and see just how ugly it gets when you add politics to the mix. There are plenty of sites that allow that sort of thing. Facebook, for one, is a great place to get your blood pressure cranked up, if that's what you like. This isn't Facebook. And it never will be. Period.

I'm not going to sit here and pat my own back, but I will pat the backs of our other admins/moderators. The hours that they put in here, without earning a SINGLE DIME of profit, done out of the kindness of their hearts and based on the sole reason that they love this community of people from ALL WALKS OF LIFE, from all political backgrounds, from all races and creeds, from many different countries. That's why they try to do their best determining what posts to allow, what posts to delete, who's trolling for a fight (yeah, we have those here too....and they're people I'd NEVER imagine would do those things).....we are humans too. We make mistakes, we sometimes jump to conclusions, sometimes too early, sometimes post-haste, sometimes too late, but we TRY to do it respectfully, giving a lot more leniency that some other places out there.....

At the end of the day, it's our site and our rules. No "one person" dictates here, it's done via all staff. Things are voted on. Things are discussed. Bear in mind, we all have families, children, jobs, chores.......all the while trying to deal with this place fairly and honestly on a hourly basis, as best we can. For no monetary gain whatsoever.

So in closing, I'll say this....if the place bothers you, if you can't stand the moderation and staff, if you're too mad to send me or one of the other mods/admins a note to try and talk with and/or discuss your concerns, maybe this isn't the place for you to be anymore. Our vision, from day one, was a politics-free, family-oriented, like-minded, freedom-loving group that could talk about the things we love without the political TRASH clogging the arteries. We're a small community, and honestly that's all the better. We're not in this for money, we're in it for the fellowship. That's just not going to change, folks.

Amen. Thanks Scotty. And thanks to all the VOLUNTEERS. If I could add something, as someone who has had the reigns pulled on me pretty hard for a few posts, if you are corrected by the mods, TAKE IT LIKE A GROWN UP!!! There is no need for antagonistic posts to get back at someone or try to prove that you are right. We ALL make mistakes sometimes.... Even the Mods. But keep in mind that they are acting in the best interest of this site and its members. Let's put this behind us and get back to talking about the firewood that warms our homes, our hearts, our families and keeps the cash in our wallets. :campfire:

I, for one, am glad of someplace that I don't have to see political stuff (funny or not, regardless of party - or even against all parties). There are some forums I attend that have specific sections for that sort of thing and you have to sign agreements all the time that promise giving up your first born if you ever even think about complaining about something in that section. If I feel a need to, I can go into those forums and spout off, or read, political opinions/agendas/jokes.

I for one, really like this site as it is so friendly and informative about such a variety of topics. I really appreciate that it is family friendly and politics free. Thank you Scotty Overkill for reminding us why we all like this site so much.

Thank you Scotty. And mods. Keep it up.

And I'll put my response here too.

This is what I see is part of the problem.

It's not as much politics, and the discussion of the subject, as it is with some people having a negative and/or sometimes paranoid attitude. For decades I have listened to and watched many folks talk about how this world is going to hell in a hand basket. Well, no, I'm happy to say, it's not.

And don't get me wrong, I have jumped on the band wagon myself from time to time. Easy to do. But it is as much people's interpretation of the media's reporting that just makes them think it is. The media reports what they feel gets them the most viewers. Most times as fast as they can so they can claim the "exclusive" story reporters! Wow! And if making those stories more dramatic gets them higher ratings, weather it is the truth, the whole truth, or whole story, so it goes. More viewers, higher ratings, equals more advertising dollars. More money, more influence, more power.

Many people don't remember to think about every story in the proper context. Or representation of numbers of people they are reporting on. Just a small example. The media reports on protesters in "all these cities" around the United Statss. Well in all actuality there are several thousand or even tens of thousands of protesters on the streets. They have every right to protest. We live in a country where we are allowed to protest. Thankfully. But, the very few who are destroying other's properties are criminals. Not protesters. The ones who are throwing rocks and bottles at the LEOs are assaulting law enforcement officers and are criminals. They are breaking laws and should be arrested. But the next thing you know you here people saying that all these protesters are scum. Cowardly scum. Or you here others say the police are causing the problem by being dressed in riot gear. Neither is right.

The media never reports about the fact that there are 323 MILLION other people out their in these great United States that are not protesting. That are going to work every day. Going to school every day. Taking care of their loved ones, people they know, and in many instances caring for people they don't even personally know. (Teachers, doctors, nurses, neighbors, fire and rescue personnel, hell all 323 million of us! ) but the media doesn't report about those positive things. They are not dramatic enough.

They report about break ins, rapes, murders, etc. , on a daily basis. Makes it seem like it's going on everyday all over the place. Doesn't it? Only it's not. Think about the number of people who are actually criminals and committing these crimes. And how many it actually happens to. A very small number, in context to the overall population. What would you guess the percentage of the population is that are doing this? I would say less than 1/2 a percent. That leaves over 99.5 % of us doing and being good to each other! So in the United States, don't forget their are 323 million others out there doing good. Doing the right things.

Do we need to be aware of the ones doing the wrong things? YES. Do we need to keep an eye and ear open and take care of ourselves, our family, neighbors, and friends. YES!

But we don't need to have a negative, sometimes paranoid, view or outlook on the whole entire world because a very small percentage of the population is bad. Or because an even smaller, minutiae of the population has the ability to come into our homes via TV, radio, and now internet, and tell you what they think will get you to keep listening or watching. Not necessarily what would be the best things to be telling all of us.

Let's keep thinking for ourselves in a rational, calm, collective way without being overly dramatic, like a lot of the things we see on TV are.

The members of FHC is a great reflection of the great population of people we have all around our country and our world! The super VAST majority of people are good!

I've already stated in another thread; its time to move on.

Scotty, I have no idea how much flak you've taken over the past week (apparently a lot) and I was one who took the opportunity to write to you personally. I did not contact you to stir up trouble and you know that. You and I are on the same page. I like this forum and have since I got onto your case and then you immediately took the opportunity to state to all that there would be no more bashing of another site or if there was, that thread would be closed and deleted. I feared at the time this forum was going to die a quick death because if it was just a site to bash someplace else, it would not last. As stated, you fixed it as I requested. Let us hope this fixes the little problem that cropped up last week. I personally think it got blown way out of proportion but it is past; it is time to move on. You have my support on this.

So, what's your next tree job gonna' be?
I'm trying to determine if I should get over to my SisIL's place to cut up some trees, or order some more csd. Then, I have to figure out what type of wood to order....Ash, Oak, Beech, Maple........so many decisions.

My friend, trust me when I say that neither YOU nor "any one person" are the reason for this post......it's a blanket statement. Honest to God, I have no idea where all this recent stuff came from......I gotta tell ya it hit me like a sledgehammer......so I needed to spell out an update on our politics policy.

Just know this.......I consider you men and women of FHC, all of you, my EXTENDED FAMILY. And I mean that from the bottom of my heart. You've all impacted my life, whether you realize it or not, in many ways over the years. You've all shaped me into a more understanding, more patient, more forgiving, and more compassionate human being. I've matured a lot here, because of different scenarios and people. I think it's been for the better on many levels.

I'm still (and always WILL be) a staunch conservative. But over the years I feel that very conservatism and the anger against the opposite party infringing on my own faith........seeing myself as hypocritical, even, in some circumstances.
That anger and hatred that opposite parties have towards each other, now more than ever, is destroying our country.

That being said, I am trying with all my heart to fix those things. And I find no reason whatsoever to pour those things into this site and it's members (whom I love and respect). This place is my "mountain cabin", my "waterfall in the woods", my escape. An escape from all that bullchit that clogs my daily grind arteries. I want it to be that way for ALL OF US. And I will fight to the end to keep it that way.

As I've said to you many times Scotty Overkill ... thanks for staying with your original concept here on FHC as you help steer the ship. I suppose more problems could always be expected as the numbers of members grows. So nice to still have a home online here, where politics, and all of the high blood pressure BS that can come with it... is not welcome. It's also good to see it never will be either. Priceless. Thanks buddy... :tree:

I'm in agreement with your posts Scott. I don't come to this forum (or any other) for political or religious content. I haven't seen the posts, because I don't seek them out, but wanted to express my support. Thanks to all the staff. I moderate a motorcycle forum and I know how much time can be spent doing so.
