So the last few weekends i have been putting boards up in the loft in my cabin. This side of the loft is 8x16 feet. We have probably 400 bd ft of lumber in the walls i would guess. The trim and lower walls are oak, the ceiling is poplar. We will be putting down the oak floor in a couple weeks so i will post more pics. All the lumber was cut on a LT15. I am thinking about putting poly on all of it?
Also consider Shellac. Goes on easier, lot less apt to run, reasonable and durable. Good for the walls and ceiling wood. Poly better for the floor.
Thanks i will look into it! Here is one of our stacks of lumber sticked up. THis was taken last summer. Image of the downstairs also . It is all quartersawn sycamore.
That looks really appealing. I'm getting ready to put pine on my porch sun room. Been debating running it horizontal or vertical. What you did there looks really eye pleasing.
Looks great, Spencer! Are you wanting the wood to look rustic over the years? If so, I wouldn't clear it. I'd use an oil product instead. That's what I did to my living room ceiling, and it allows a slight level of natural oxidation occur over the years. It's aging beautifully.
Gorgeous work Spencer My thoughts on bringing out the depth of any grain involve lacquer, but man is that stuff STRONG (odor)! But makes the grain almost 3 dimensional. I've used Waterlox on several floors BITD, great results!
Does the paneling need to dry for awhile before you coat it? It would be a shame if you coated it all and then it shrank some. It looks very nice, lucky you and the 15!
Its alot more work, but was worth it. That crappy pic doesnt do it justice. seems like i always forget to take pics of the work lol.
Looks good, the downstairs walls t&g? If you want to keep the color and a more natural finish I like a satin poly.
